Just wondering if anyone has hunted the Maury Unit for elk in Oregon. I've heard it has some great elk hunting, except it has lots of private land. Looking to find some new elk areas and was told by a BLM friend of mine it has some great elk areas. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The elk hunting in the Maury unit and the others around it has gone down hill a little but there's still some good hunting . there's a lot of private land in that unit and if the hang on it you're SOL and that's why the trespassing is a real problem in that unit. the guys I know who hunt it quite a bit do the best down in the sage and juniper areas on th BLM but it's a real hit and miss thing in that type of country. with a little luck you could have a good hunt but like anywhere in Oregon don't expect a booner.

I'm hunting Oregon elk for the first time this year, General Cascade Hunt, Rogue or S.Dixon units. Any specific areas I should try? I'd hate to hunt the whole season and not see anything.

I can't help you out much on hunting the west side. all I know for sure is expect lots or rain and thick brush. hunting Roosevelt elk seems more like a matter of luck than anything else to me given the time of year and the cover you hunt them in.
