Colo Elk Results!

It seems like the last few draw results this year post by the afternoon on the date listed.
Good luck in the draws...

There is an island of opportunity in the middle of every difficulty. Miss that, though, and you're pretty much screwed...

I applied, then after a long talk with my wife (aka she chewed me out) I emailed a request to change my app to a pref pnt, no way of knowing if they did. I am hunting in NM no matter what, and CO would have been 2 bow elk hunts, wife did not want me gone that long, we have a newborn and it worked out that sept is when she would go back to work - and when I would leave for 3 weeks. I agreed, especially considering there was a chance I would draw a third tag too.

Now it turns out she can get an extra month off, unpaid, so I could have gone (although she would not be happy) so I am hoping they did not change my app to a point and I draw!

I am dieing to hunt the CO high country, I am looking forward to that hunt far more then any NM hunt, scenery is better - big plus for me,

good luck jims! you guys already got a goat tag, robb too, awesome no matter what CO turns up

Either way, there's plenty of high country in Colorado to hunt without drawing if you're bow hunting...

Never hunted CO before, drew and either sex 1st rifle for what I think may be a slightly better than average general unit, but then again what do I know. Just banking off several weeks of internet scouting.

Ok,
results are out. How did point banking affect your draw? How many points did you have, did you draw? How many points do you have left?

I drew my third choice, EF04104R, I had hoped to draw my 2nd choice of an either sex tag for the same unit and season. But, I get to hunt and got another point (2) and will most likely put meat in the freezer.

Applied for either-sex 4th season (no points). Got a preference point and a second-choice cow tag for same season.

(I wish this site had a spell check)

i didn't get my bull tag for 61 but another perference point another year.

LAST EDITED ON May-24-06 AT 11:06AM (MST)[p]Devlin,

You're one ahead of me. :^(

Patiently waiting (Grizzly)

LAST EDITED ON May-24-06 AT 12:37PM (MST)[p]Well I decided to stick with area 2 either sex. Did not draw so I now have 15 PP Elk which should put me close. I did draw my second choice cow tag for area 2. plan on using this as a chance to scout the area out. I should be able to draw that area ML next year or so. I am curious to see how the banking turns out. Alos curious to see how many points it took to draw area 61.

Ya we are excited,
muzzy. bull,
now all of you start to cross your fingers for cold, wet,
overcast nights, w/ maybe a spritz of snow, in the evenings.
with cold, overcast, days.
good luck to all,
I will be selling INSTANT ELK decoys later, in Oct. on ebay.
good luck. to all.
WOW.
Jim

First choice was preference points.

Drew my 3rd choice--either sex 4th season.

Last year I would have undoubtedly drawn my second choice, so
I'm thinking the points banking thing affected things a little.

I'm really happy with the tag I drew--I almost regretted not putting it as my 2nd choice, but it worked out.

That's interesting on unit 61. It only took 8 points last year to draw as NR. If some of you are not drawing with 10 or 11 then what the DOW said was true. "Sorry you will never draw in this unit in your lifetime under the current system". I have 7 points as of today.

I think the point banking affected things quite abit. We had as our second choice First Rifle in Unit 62. This usually has leftover Tags. We will be hunting 2nd Rifle General Season.

My guess is that you will inevitably see some erosion of the preference point holders. It's just the law of averages. Some of us will elect to now wait any longer. A bird in the hand is worth more than two in the bush.

(I hope it's a whole bunch that drop out thereby decreasing MY waiting game.) :)

From what I've seen on the res side, looks like everyone aimed high. Some of the lesser point tags went cheap...

I drew an either sex tag for the 4th rifle season and my 2 buddies drew cow tags.
I'm pretty stoked!! Might finally get to pound something sizeable with my 300RUM. :D

We drew Unit 66 ML Bull tags

LAST EDITED ON May-24-06 AT 07:31PM (MST)[p]My buddy and I went in with 14 NR points, hoping to draw and come out with about 6 points left. After the apps went out, I got scared we might get really screwed. Well we have 5 points left so nonresidents must have gone down as low as 8 points. 14-(8+1)=5

How about it Tbuck, did you get that 8 point tag?

My people felt that during this first bank year that some premium areas would jump up a fdew points due to many people switching. Then the next year it should drop back to normal. Tah was one of the reasons I decided to hold off and stick with my original plan to wait it oput from area 2. I am glad I did. You could see area 61 go back to 8-9 points next year.

My wife drew unit 10 early rifle with 16 points. I am now on 13 a few years behind. Good luck to everyone else

CONGRATULATIONS to the wife! Was that 16 points as a res or nonres? Hope she drops a biggun!
Jeff

Thank's for the head's up KILOWAT, I drew 4th season bull and Wyoming general tag now if I can draw the late season bowhunt in New Mexico it will be a hectic year,

I doubt enough nonresidents bailed to even come close to making up for the cut from 40% to 20% of the tags. That may have upped the points to draw a bit this year, but long term will be worse. It will up points to draw more each successive year. I bailed with ten points, got a 66 musket tag, and am down to only one point. Oh well, I am happy to go hunting this year. And who knows what rule changes will come down line. A bird in the hand.....

I think guys with big numbers are going to stay put. But guys in the 6-10 I think will start looking at alternative untis as they did this year.

Statewide cow Muzzleloader and another preference point, I couldn't have asked for much more.

Now comes the hard part.........filling it when my real quest that week will be for a big muley :)

What am i doing wrong. I went to the website, put in the info and hit start anme search and got a blank page. did it several times, waited for over a min and nothing. Did the same thing with my son's and nothing. Am I doing something wrong or is the website hung up?

Son got his first choice, ES first season and I got the cow tag on the same hunt as my 2nd choice. My Dad should have gotten the cow tag also so it'll be a good family hunt. Dad has 13 pts now and I have 12.

RE: We drew Unit 66 ML Bull tags

No 66 muzz for me with 8 NR points. Next year with 9 different results I hope.
