arizona elk bowhunting

i was planning on starting to put in for the arizona bull archery tags next year and i was wondering what are good units and what do you all need to put in... and how many years do you need to put in for to actually ave a chance at getting a tag with prefference points as a non-resident? thanks for the advice... and anything extra would be appreciated!

Hey Joe, go to www.azgfd.com, that's the Arizona Game & Fish website. You'll see a link for the 2006 fall regulations, click on that & download them. In the back you'll see the draw odds & succes rates for each unit. Also, if you want more information just do a search under elk in Arizona & I'm sure you'll find lots & lots of interesting info. (sighhhh) As far as tags go, I wouldn't expect to be hunting here anytime soon if I was you. You're gonna spend a lot of $$$$ before that ever happens on license's & fee's so decide now if it's worth it.

Joe, I believe the non-res max point holders will be the ones drawing the tags this year which will be the hunters with (approx) 10+ points for most units. I talked with a non-res hunter last year and he said it took him 16 years to draw a archery tag. It's never too late to start building points though, good luck.

It might be impossible to draw this year, however don't let that discourage you. You might still have a chance. The way it was explained to me from someone in the draw department, you will still have a chance with 0 points. As for preference points, AZ only has bonus points. And yes, you could very easily draw a tag this year, next, or the next, or it could take 15 years, it just depends on how lucky you are. I've been applying for 17 years and have never had a tag. And thats as a resident. As for the best units, any unit in AZ is good. Stay away from the popular units and you will have a better chance at drawing and could still get a good bull.

wow!17 what hunts are you putting in for?i hope your putting in for unit 9 early rifle bull this year!! you should be one of the 25 tag holders!!i drew unit 9 archery bull last year with only 5 bps-so luck does play into our draw.i have max for deer so......we will see.if you draw that unit 9 hunt let me know.
