A friend advised the G & F indicated they were increasing the number of any elk tags on Muddy this year. Anyone know how many licenses they increased it by. After hearing about some of the big bulls they shot last season, I've been debating between 19 and a couple other area's. Figured I'd wait to post until most of you guys had already sent in yer apps...

It's fine if Cheney's is town, as long as you don't hunt with him. I have wondered if he is related to those who own ground on Muddy (cheney cow camp) but I have been told that is not the case.

saw lots of cows around bates hole hunter management area today
like everywhere. i haven't hunted over there but its looking good. where the elk calve is where they will rut i saw over 20 cows on a one day hike sign is everywhere.
i just had to scout it out today after what my buddy told me and it looks better then the top of muddy on quanaty of cows.
cows should start gathering back up now that the calves are up and moving.what i was seeing was single cows off with the young calves by next week i bet i start seeing groups i was surprized they were not grouped up already.winter hit late this spring i wonder if the elk calved later this year. most years i see groups on this weekend.

LAST EDITED ON Jun-04-06 AT 09:03AM (MST)[p]grasshopper i went to cheneys yesterday and saw few tracks looks to me like most the elk are still lower or maybe behind the campground i hiked and glassed from daylight tell dark and never saw a elk or a buck deer on cheneys or haygoods.
this also makes it look like they must be grouping up all the tracks i saw were cows with little calfs and seamed to be headed for mohoney meadows.
i'll keep you informed as the season gets closer.
i sure hope i draw.
our camp will be in the patch of trees at cheneys cow camp by the cabins we will be there even if we don't get the elk tag deer hunting. stop by and see us.
if my party and my dads party both draw that will make 10 in camp if not there will be 5 of us deer hunting.
i don't know if you have a deer tag but if you do be selective the deer up there have been hurting for many years now. we try not to kill anything unless its a older buck.

I hope to get something on the calendar to get up there and look around. Two jobs and a new baby aren't helping my schedule any. I'll give you a buzz when I get something planned out. I would enjoy meeting up with you.
