LAST EDITED ON Jun-11-06 AT 01:08PM (MST)[p]So here you are, in the wilds of elk country. You have been watching this herd for 3 days now and have figured the travel route out. You set up on the fourth day and things are going your way. This guy is feeding towards you. The wind is blowing at an angle from him to you. He is at 30 yards, and you are at full draw. The hunting gods have smiled upon you. Where are you going to put your arrow... 1 is high and 4 is low.

I'LL MAKE YOU A BET I'VE GOT A WEAPON THAT WON'T RICOCHET OFF THE BLADE,LOL!!!

THE ONLY bobcat WONDERING IF A FEW OF YOU ARE TRYING TO GUT SHOOT HIM ON THE FIRST SHOT???

If I had to shoot right now, 3 black.
I would rather wait till he turned his head away, or moved his on-side leg forward a little, giving me a little more broadside/queartering away shot, then I'd slice an arrow through him.

I would hold on #4 black and wait for one more step, that's right where I shot my bull last year and he only went 35yds,just walked away never what hit him. Also I chose lower because you would probably be on your knees so the exit will be higher than the entry

Green four. I have shot acouple in the shoulder blade. It does'nt work in an elk most of the time.

#72- Recurve, instictive. Since he is feeding towards me and wind is good I let him come. After 3 anxious minutes, he is now at about 22 yards and has turned away (22 yards is my sure fire kill distance, every time) , reaching around in a "U" of sorts, scratching his left hind quartuer with his brows, and exposing his entire heart and lung area, unobscured by any shoulder blade. I pull back quickly and swiftly, just like in practice, and zone in on a dark tuff of hair where the top of his heart is.
Just then a damn ATV with some donkey that couldnt read the NO MOTORIZED VEHICLES sign 4 miles down the hill comes riding up and the whole herd scatters, leaving me at full draw with GI Jerk on his camo clad ATV (Oneida Eagle strapped on the back) at... well, lets just say, 22 yards. Did I mention 22 yards is my sure fire kill distance, every time?

life IS good

"Your at full draw" unless you "draw" your guns, your gonna ricochet off the blade. If I had my .338, he wouldnt go nowhere! Done it before at 30 yds, never flinched....

i'd crap myself first, then my arrow would fall of the rest cuz i'm shaking too bad, then i'd stick one right in the tree under his belly and between his legs.
(never killed a big bull...maybe this year)
i do like the green 4 or wait till his right frt leg goes forward and take that shot.

Howdy dooo Bessy!
I kinda got fed up with some of the b!tching around here and took a little break. I have been spending a ton of time on the boat and doing a little fishing with the kids and chasing cattle. Havent gone to Canada fishing yet, maybe in August.

4 green (unless I thought he was going to step forward within the next 10 seconds at full draw and present a better opportunity).

What is with the range or multiple choices from others! I'm not saying my choice is the best but its specific, the best archers I know pick out ONE specific spot, a single hair or dime size area and focus on only that spot. My suggestion if you're not picking ONE dot, practice doing it or else you're more likely to hit poorly and wound an animal, or rush a shot thinking its good enough. A bad decision in my mind that too many archers I've come across have made!
