I may get an opportunity to hunt the Nine Mile Range Creek North unit during the archery season. I have a neighbor that has offered access through his property. Any one have any experience? I am not thinking I will get a huge bull. Mostly curious about the amount of public land that my be accessed through private land, and quality/quantity of the herd.

Any info to get me more fired up.

It can be a pretty good hunt but I do know that the Land owners up there do not take trespassing lightly, its all about access and where your at. Sent you a pm. Good luck!

IT ALL DEPENDS ON WHERE THE ACCESS IS. THERE ARE VERY LARGE AMOUNTS OF PUBLIC LAND BEHIND SMALL PARTS OF PRIVATE LAND. I HAVE HUNTED THIS COUNTRY ALL MY LIFE AND I HAVE MAPS THAT SHOW ALL PRIVATE AND PUBLIC LAND. THE BULLS ON THE NORTH END ARE VERY CALL SHY DURING THE ARCHERY HUNT, BUT GIVEN THE RIGHT OPPORTUNITY YOU CAN HARVEST A VERY NICE BULL. I WILL ONCE AGAIN BE ON THE RANGE CREEK UNIT ALL SUMMER AND FALL. GOOD LUCK AND LET ME KNOW IF I CAN HELP.

Don't expect anything huge, I'm talking a small 5x5 is a good bull for the unit. And make sure you know damn sure where you are at all times, its pretty easy to think that you are on public and you are actually on private. The landowners in that part of the state tend to aggresively prosecute trespassers, so I would be very cautious.

LAST EDITED ON Jun-14-06 AT 03:41PM (MST)[p]Yeah smaller 5x5 on average, mostly younger bulls taken out of there according to the southeast dwr biologist. Dont get me wrong, there is still some potential, but on an open unit any bull hunt, it gets hit pretty hard by the landowners, and his many friends and family in general. A guy named Call Haskel, use to over shoot the hell out of minnie maud, before it went to CWMU, as of late it starting to come back.
