NM 16A

want some advice? Stay away from me! Just kidding! I drew out the same hunt. Have you been down there this year? Water is the name of the game. I was down there for turkey and man the entire Gila is in very bad shape. I was afraid to fart cuz I might start a fire. Find the isolated water and you should find lots of elk. Good luck. If you see me down there say hi. I will be the one with the 350ish bull in the back of the truck.

Anaconda,

Me and Shootwice drew the 1st rifle hunt in 16A. If you have any info to spare we'd appreciate it.

Anaconda, I will give you any information I can when I get back from my hunt.

Anaconda,

Thanks!

Archeryelk,

Don't worry. It's not like we'll be hunting there every year from now on... ;-)

Careful Grizz, 16A may be our 3rd choice (again) and we may be back. Don't jinks us.

Just in case any of you were thinking of heading down anytime soon be sure to check with the forest service. One of the guys I work with went down to check out his area 16D and it was closed due to the fires. He tried Old Horse springs, Apache Creek and the long way to the south of Reserve all of which were closed. In talking to a forest service person manning the road stop he came to find out that the fire was up to Collins park and advancing to the north and west fairly fast. Hope they are able to get a handle on this soon since I am like you guys in that I drew 16A. Looks like we may be hunting the south end of the unit.

If you drew 16a then wouldnt you hunt the North end of the unit??? It looks like the fire is in the south part of 16A and the north of 16b

Speaking of fire - have I told you about my hot wife? She's so "hot" that she'll probably leave me if I take one more hunting trip!

WOW... I did not realize it was that close to snow lake... I wonder if there is going to be a fish-kill? Are there any of the gila cutthroats up there?

Sorry guys...my wife highjacked my computer when I wasn't looking. I would never brag about my wife like that, maybe about my luck drawing a 16A tag and then Valle Vidal back-to-back, but not my wife. (She is worthy of it though.)

Besides, she would never leave me...she know's how good she's got it!!! (I hope she doesn't read this!) :-0

The Fire on 16a is 71% contained and they will start to demobelize and begin to mop up according to the New Mexico Fire information.

Looks like the fire is in better shape by all accounts. I showed the map to the lineman that I work with that informed me the firer was up to Colins Park and he said that the map of the fire was inaccurate (not up to date). It seems that the fire was contained at Collins Park. According to him (and I hope he is wrong) the fire tore up to the north end of the unit.
