The elk hunting sucks, but the fine wines, pastas, beautiful women and nice cars will make up for it;)

Yes, Manila....I was talking to a guy and he kept talking about "Milan". I will have to correct him. I would like to hunt the area first with a bow and then rifle. Im not sure when the seasons are but I could use some help.

I hope ya don't think you can bow hunt and then rifle hunt elk in the same year in Utah.....

Bow August 24th opener, can have some crowd control issues over the Labor Day wknd...... very restrictive on any off-road ATV type usage...very few 'legal' trails for that type of hunter.

More vocal/active in the afternoons when the daily thunderstorms roll in and it rains.... BUT ya got the swirling winds from the thunderstorms...

Some decent FS campgrounds, Green Lake, Skull Creek, Brownie Lake, Spirit Lake, Sheep Creek lake and Long Park lake---this lake-area- has the most 'legal' ATV-off road options...

There was a big burn last year that basically goes from the Sheep Creek park south into Weyman Park.... tons of blowdown!!! but lots of new grass growth...

I wasn't thinking bow and rifle in the same year. Also, I hoof it in and out, so the farther away from any road or atv trail works for me. I might have to spend some time in this area to get familiar. PleaseDear, thanks for the info. If you have anything else you can share, that would be great.
Thanks, Fly

If your going to 'hoof it in' ya might want a packer to get your elk out....

Boyd Paliston is the only Permitted Guide with in that particular area. He is out of Manila and is in the dexphone online book.

Bring a pack-in fishing pole... lots af good eating trout in the creeks and upper lakes.

The National Geographic map #704 Flaming Gorge Recreation Area would be valuable for map scouting until you decide and get some topo maps....

Thanks for the help PleaseDear. Iv'e got a great topo program that prints out some unbelievable maps. The area just south/southwest of the Wyo/Utah border looks promising. There seems to be a lot of nice high rims for the elk to park on. I spoke with a friend last night who has a ranch in Ruby Valley and he knows a rancher in Manila. Maybe be able to get onto some private land. Thanks again for your help.

Keep in mind that any thing East of Flaming Gorge lake & the Green River is Totally a draw Limited Entry unit and ya can't hunt there on a General bow elk tag.

Private property.... maybe Phil Pico mnt. but that is it for private property.... it is all in the Manila valley not on the mountian. Daggett County is 89% public ground...
