NRA Whittington Hunts

Has anyone hunted on the NRA Whittington Center property? I'm wondering if this is a legit hunt or something else. I was reading the info on their website www.nrawc.org. The prices seem reasonable for guided elk and mule deer hunts. I would appreciate any feedback about the quality of the hunts. I'm an NRA life member but have not taken advantage of any of their extras.

Yes....the Whitington Center has 10,000's of acres. Can't remember how much exactly. Has good to great populations of deer, elk, turkeys and some antelope. Managed for quailty. So tough draw. I couldn't/can't get drawn for spring turkeys.

I put in for the raffle they offer every year, but that is a long shot. I think it is a quality hunt from what I know. Seems like they have 30-40,000 acres.

My cuz when there for summer camp had a great time said there were lots of elk no idea about trophy quality though???

Thanks for the replys. Sounds like it is legit. I put in for the drawing also and I figured that would be a long shot. I know a guy who paid $8500 for a guided hunt in New Mexico last year and killed an elk but it was in the 260-280 class. Nothing big. He had a 5 day guided hunt and shot the first decent bull he saw on the first day. I believe the Whittington Center is charging $8000 for a guided bull elk hunt.

The Whittington Center has 33000 acres. We stopped there on the way to Valle Vidal last fall. The ranges are second to none. The steel silhouette targets are a hoot to shoot at. We went to the 200 yard range and shot out above the range at a couple targets at 540 yards. It was a blast. The mullies we were shooting over didn't seem to care. As far as the hunting there, word has it it's pretty good.

I've drawn, and hunted for, elk & turkey on Whittington. Never saw any especially large deer there. It has been several years since I was last there, hoiwever. My impression was the quality of elk on the Center was not that great. The bulls we saw were mostly smaller, spindly antlered bulls. Fun hunts, good access, lots of game.

I hiked around the Whittington center back in the mid 80's. Then there was a trailer that you signed in at and not much elce. I found 5 or 6 six point elk antlers and two large mule deer heads. The best elk antler is about 150 inches. The larger of the two mule deer is a dandy, a 31 inch 190 gross frame and 22 inches of nontypical. One G4 is 15 6/8. The best I have ever found. When I was there you would be the only person there on the week days. I am sure things have changed in the last 20 years.
