I was lucky this year and drew the ES bow hunt for this unit. I have been to the area once and went to the microwave tower on top of the mountain and the area looks like a pretty good place to start hunting elk. The reason for this post is I wasn't hunting I was just exploring the area and as far as the rest of the unit I don't know much about it. Any conversation or advice on this hunt would be appreciated. I don't want anyone's honeyhole info just a starting point as to where to go. I plan on scouting in mid August. Thanks

The area up top does have elk but there are much, much better areas down low. Email me at [email protected]. I used to hunt this unit quite a bit (7 years in a row).

Well it gets better later on in the rut.If u walk the road east from the towers hang to the left it will take u to a wallow, thats in-bedded on the road ,if its not dried up.Wanta walk some more, keep walking east till u hit a big,big freaken -canyon...thats where there at ...& you better have a strong pack mule..that canyon will take you down to the Acoma sky City casinio if u got the $$$.also the rd from the towers east will split to the right will curve to a nice green grassy area ,then splits again south rd will take u to a dead end,the SE rd will get very rugged if u have a beefed up 4X4,curves down to a split again ,SW rd will take u on a runout rd.east rd will take u to a curve going due south to a fence, thats where the Acoma res. borders up to.I did lots of walking in that area ,saw a couple of bears & a few cow.The bulls are mosty in that big freaken canyon till it gets later in the evening just before dark to feed near the grassy areas near the towers.Good luck...oh yea.. When U hike down to the Acoma Sky City, throw in a couple of Franklins in the slot machines & if We win ,Ill even watch you pack out the elk..for Us >>>--------->

Thanks for the lowdown I'll check the wallow out when I go scouting. The big canyon your talking about is it called Water Canyon? What I remember is I saw a house or building way down that big mother frkin canyon. I don't own no mule but I sure like to gamble so maybe I can hit the jackpot on this trip
