Anyone care to part with some advice on Valle Vidal? Drew archery tag. Plan on spiking out from a base camp on foot. No horses. Any tips would be appreciated.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-07-06 AT 11:13AM (MST)[p]If you have all your maps, you can call me Wednesday night 9-10 PM Central Time. I bowhunted it in 1996 and advised 3 guys who took their bulls. 219-757-9080.

I hunted there last year with Shootwice. We each took nice 6x6's. PM me for more info.

I hunted there in 2004 with a muzzleloader. I was probably one of the ones that Zim mentioned helping - he has great advice. What I did find though through all of my research - there is truly no wrong area to hunt - some are simply a bit better than others. If you would like more details, give me a call at 828-754-0210. What I found was that advice and help was abundant and I wouldn't bother with a guide, unless you simply had to have one. You can probably expect to see bulls in the 280 - 330 range. But rest assured, you have drawn an awesome hunt.

Hey Todd, How have you been? Did you draw anything this year? Speaking of elk, I am really excited about my Nevada tag this year. My hunt starts next month. Based on calls I have made, my hunt should be incredible, maybe the best elk hunting can get.

ToddT drew a mnt goat tag in UTAH!

Lucky SOB!

Good luck Todd

I could not pull tags with odds over 80% this year so I am jealous!

Zim,

Would really like to get your input about Valle Vidal. My 14 year old drew the Oct 7-11 Rifle ES Tag...He best be thinking about taking a bull. He already has a Ant and a Deer. I have already ordered our maps from the forest service and they should be getting here this week. Been reading all I can about it. I was lucky enough to draw a NM Sheep Tag and that hunt is in August, After that hunt I will be working thru the Valle Vidal area prior to his hunt since it is so close.

Units 111-222. August 26-Sept. 15. I'll be there the entire time if necessary, holding out for a good one.

Zim and Don,

I drew a mountain goat in Utah and a decent pronghorn tag in Wyoming. I drew a combo tag in Montana and am trying to put something together there. I also should have landowner vouchers in Kansas and have been invited on a hunt in Missouri - supposed to be topnotch, we'll see. I hope all is well and Zim, I hope your Nevada hunt goes well, you deserve it.

Zim,
I had a rifle 231 tag last year, which is across the road from 221. Your area is huge, we hunted deer in 221 about 4 years ago and saw a number of huge bulls. The archery hunt should be a great hunt with the limited tags.
Good luck,
neb
