BEST ELK ANYWHERE

SO TELL ME GUYS WHERE DO YOU THINK THE BEST PLACE TO HUNT THAT MONSTER BULL ELK OF YOUR DREAMS?

It depends on how much you want to spend or how long you want to wait for a tag. If money is no object (fair chase)then I would say the San Carlos. If you don't mind a long wait then Arizon. There is several units in Az that have alot of huge bulls in them. If you don't want to wait so long I would say a NM muzzy tag.

i agree with the AZ stuff but i think unit 4 in NM on some of the private ground is pretty awesome!

I would say New Mexico hands down if you are talking size. AZ on average has bigger, but you either need lots of money or lots of time. All other states with a good number of 350+ (UT, NV, MT) are hard to draw for the good areas. In New Mexico (at least with the bow or muzz) you can draw tags on a semi-regular basis for areas (Gila) that hold good numbers of 350+ bulls. I have been lucky enough to draw tags the last 4 years and every year I have been within 100 yards of at least 3 or 4 350+ bulls (It's just that last 50 or 60 yards thats tough). I was luck enough to take a 352" bull two years ago and I made the shot of the year on a 900" pine that was in front of a 360" bull the year before.

In the last five years Utah has add 50 bulls into the Boone and Crockett record books, just the Boone and Crockett. Az was second with 25! You can find that info on the Boone and Crockett website you do have to pay to veiw it though. The data to me suggests that Utah is the place to go. I drew a tag in Utah in three years and shot a pretty nice bull that if not broken would have been 360, in an area that isn't one of Utah's premier units. So if money and Time aren't an issue I would go to Utah over anywhere else.

I agree that Utah is by far the best place to hunt trophy elk........ looks like twice as good as AZ. So don't waste your time and money trying to hunt AZ. Go to Utah. I can't even remember the last time a B&C, P&Y or Safariclub record has been broken by AZ, but Utah keeps breaking their own state records every year!!!!! Utah rules!!!!!

Utah, AZ, NV, NM, WY

If you factor in cost and draw odds NM hands down.

What many fail to realize when they see that Utah has TWICE as many B&C bulls as ANY other state is that Utah has far less tags too. They double AZ but issue a fraction of the tags. This is unreal.

IF i catch ussama bin laddin Ill wave the reward for lifetime hunting privliges in any nation park for the rest of my life sheep elk muley goat grizz black bear and speed goat tags every year where ever I want nation wide.

Utah is only producing more B&C heads than Az because were blowing more down with rifles during the rut. Mean while most hunters sit around with a pile of BP's. Az is better if you want to draw more than once in your lifetime. Utah's better if you can afford to skip the draw.

I think Nevada has the highest number of 400 class bulls as a % of their harvest. However, there are only 10 nonresident archery bull tags in the entire state this year. The good news is I have one of them. Heehee.

ZIM CONGRATS ON THAT TAG, ITS A DANDY TAG. DID YOU ALSO HAVE A BISON TAG A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO SOMEWHERE??? DID YOU EVER PUT UP ANY PICS OF THAT HUNT, I'LL BET THAT WAS ALSO A NEAT HUNT. IF YOU GOT A COUPLE OF PICS THEY WOULD BE GREAT TO SEE. YOU HAVE BEEN LUCKY IN THE DRAWS, GOOD LUCK. YD.

Ya, I also drew a slammer Colorado mulie tag this year. One of the new 4th season Gunnison Basin tags. Two great tags. I don't want anymore. I really am hoping I don't draw anything in Arizona. Good luck to you others.

If you want a big bull put in Nv. Az. Ut. and NM. and then you can hunt every few years. I drew Az. unit 9 after 10 years as a non-resident. I killed a 365 muzzleloading bull in unit 10 in 96. It's going to be fun this year!

Agree with the first response...San Carlos Rez in AZ.

Great question!, I Agree with everyone on this issue, A Wall Hanger is where you find him!! I believe on any given day and if everything goes to plan a BIG!BULL! can certainly be taken on any of the top States. I know im comparing apples to oranges here , depending on price and the type of hunt, but as someone has already mentioned, "The Reservation's"as far as overall Quality and Quanity. I never could afford those prices, but have personally seen with my own eyes what they have to offer. "HUGE!!". I have a friend who guides on the Mescalero Apachee Reservation and have been with him on several occasions while hunting cow elk there. To Rich for my pocket book, so I'm hopeing someday my ship will come in !! My picks: Arizona, Utah. (LTH)

Utah is awesome but they have put more bulls in the book for a couple of reasons.

1. Most of the Utah hunts are during rut.
2. They sell bazillions of conservation tags with great hunt dates.
3. Utah hunters are more likely to enter their bull in a record book.

If AZ hunters all entered their bulls killed in 2005 that qualified for B&C there would be over 50. The record books just are not that big of a deal in AZ.

San Carlos, but I think all and all AZ is where it is at, I agree with Muley62 the record book is no biggie in AZ

FROM WHAT I CAN TELL THE RECORD BOOKS ARE NO LONGER A BIG DEAL WITH THE MAJORITY OF THE HUNTING COMMUNITY. I KNOW OF SEVERAL BOOK ANIMALS THAT GUYS DONT EVEN BOTHER TO ENTER. SCORES HAVE BECOME A REFERENCE BENCHMARK TO JUDGE OR TELL ANOTHER HUNTER HOW BIG OF AN ANIMAL YOU SAW IN A GIVEN AREA. FOR THE BETTER, YD.

I'd still give AZ the nod, but then I'd have to say UT.NM and MT and then NV ....

I say Ariz. also because the average guy can draw a tag and have a chance at a monster with a bow. I have a friend that has killed about 10 B&C bulls in Az. and none have been entered in the book.

Arizona hands down. Give me a unit 9 or 10 early rifle tag over a Utah rut tag any day of the week.

I won't claim to be "in the know", but seems to me some big bulls have been coming out of Nevada as well...
