Bout time we had some good info on this forum.

Cloudcroft. Big Daddy's Good homestyle food at a fair price. Try the home made potato chips.
New BBQ place my son says is pretty good not sure of the name.

Alamogordo. Not a lot to get excited about. Si Senors, decent Mexican, and very good prices.

Tularosa. Casa de Suenos. Very good.

Santa Fe. Jambo Cafe. Awesome African food. Get the goat stew or lamb. Bourbon Pecan pie. Favorite restaurant in NM.

Jemez. Ridge back cafe. Has been good in the past, but, has had different owners. Green Chile, chicken cream soup is very good.

Good thread Paul. This will be a nice reference for traveling hunters.

Love me some Jambo Cafe too. Never had a bad meal-- everything there is incredible.

Angelina's in Espanola-- partial to Flavios Special (Carne Adovada + Beans), but the lamb dishes are great too.

For road food, the gas station at Santa Clara Pueblo (Puye Cliffs?) is pretty good-- Chicharron burrito.

Saenz Gorditas in Las Cruces.

El Metate in Gallup.

Waiting for that first post complaining about guys drawing tags in units and they dont even know where to go eat. Now they want everyones honey holes.

Salsola, I am gonna try that Saenz Gorditas in Cruces. It is on my list. Dont get up to Espanola or Gallup very often.

I 2nd big Daddy's in Cloudcroft. Good people and good food. Pork chops special...very good bacon for bfast.

Taos: Historic Taos Inn. Rooms above, restaurant below. Stuffed chile.

2B hunters: The tex-mex joint in Dulce isn't great, but its the closests place to gas up and who doesn't like chips and salsa.

I ate at Daddy's twice. First time was disgusting. Went back to see if it was a fluke, it wasn't. That's one eatery I'll never forget.

Rancho Chimayo in Chimayo. Classic NM.

El Sombrero in Soccorro has great Chicken Mole, relenos and salsa.

Ditto Jamba in SF along with Cafe Pasquals,Tia Sophias for breakie.
Try Sage Bakery for quality bread and the best breakfast goodies w/real coffee....

Mr. Powdrells in Alb. and the Range has great comfort food.

Ellas in Reserve.

There was a place in Deming that had the best real mexican I had this side of the border. Can't remember name, newer place and they might have been sent home....but they should be allowed to stay...cleanest RR I had seen in NM. Food was to die for..............

Missed one. If you are ever lucky enough(or unlucky enough) to draw a Ibex tag, Adobe Deli in Deming. Some great old taxidermy and good menu. I had the Osso Bucco.

Bob, Big Daddys is a step up from Dennys, I have not had a bad meal there. Not a lot of choices in the mountains. Normally only place open after a basketball game.

Did hear the Mayhill Cafe with their new owners is much better.

>The Elk Horn Caf? in Chama
>is pretty good.

Yep,been there.
The Elk Horn Saloon in San Antonio has won the best Green Chile Cheeseburger in the country before, as has the competition across the Hwy,which is a whole topic in itself.

Here a few of my favorites:

Albq - Monte Carlos, Milly's
Santa Fe - The Ranch House, Tortilla Flats, PC's
Farmington - Los Hermanitos, Bernadones
Aztec - Rubio's
Corrales - Indigo Crow
Rio Rancho - Turtle Mountian, O'Hares

Hunt Hard. Shoot Straight. Kill Clean. Apologize to No One.

Santa Fe- McDonalds

Albuq- McDonalds

Gallup- McDonalds

Grants- McDonalds

Las Cruces- McDonalds

Farmington- McDonalds

Carlsbad- McDonalds

Roswell- McDonalds

Santa Rosa- McDonalds

Raton- McDonalds

Silver City- McDonalds

Socorro- McDonalds

that's only place I went! :)

Yep, that's the Buckhorn in San Antonio (I can tell you prefer Elk, Hank!) which is better than the Owl bar across the street. I wish both places had better buns, though.

If in Socorro, you must go to Bodega on the main strip. Great food, a little pricey, and the beer they bring in is really unique.

Lemitar NM, ConocoPhillips Truck stop, killer burgers
Bernanillo, The Range Cafe or Sadies
Espanola, El Parasol
Pokoaque, El Parasol, Soppapilla Factory
Taos, Michaels

Santa Fe. El Parasol
Pojoaque El Parasol, La. Mesita
Los Alamos. Ell Parasol, chile works
Espanola. Paragua
Chimayo. Rancho Chimayo
Abiquiu. Bodies awesome tamales
Chama. High Country

Excuse the spelling but try any of these places you will not be disapointed.

Hey Vinni, I heard a rumor that Mickys doesn't serve Real Meat....????

Great thread Paul, I'll bookmark it for future reference. Never thought the Conaco in Lemitar for a burger would rank this elite list but Hey , I always seem to get Hungary about Socorro on trips to the Gila. I'll try it next trip. Hard to beat Sadies Small (lol) lunch combination plate. 2 meals in one and the chip/ salsa are worth the trip alone. For steak in ABQ love Outbacks Ribeyes w/ blue cheese , baked potatoe with the works and a cold Corona. Life is good .

+1 for the Conoco in Lemitar. First time I was taken there I was like really? Now I actually look forward to it when we draw out for crane. The food is pretty good, but the pie is awesome. I think it is called the Crane Caf?. If you have the time it is better than most anything in Socorro.

Past that I can't pass up an Allsups in eastern and southern NM when hunting. I love their chimichangas. I just can't pass up those gut bombs.

I hit the Lemitar Conoco yesterday after a stop @ windmill shop and on into Alb.and gorged @ Rudy's BBQ last night...it was dicey trying to stay awake and dodge elk thru the Malpais heading home.

Great thread Idea Paul.....I've decided to become a fulltime elk/food location scout/guide....I might need your assistance with the ice cream volume tho.....

Hank, the ice cream tip of the week is to keep a spoon in the door compartment of your truck.
Sometimes a pint of Ben & Jerry's is the only thing that will make you feel better when the animals are getting the best of you.

>Paul- The new Mayhill Cafe has
>been good the few times
>we've been there.

I have heard that. Gonna have to try it.

>Alma cafe, bisquits and gravy.......BULL

2nd that order!

Also Golden Girls Cafe in Glenwood is good for breakfast. Small shack basically. Only open 6 - 10am. Coffe is 25 cents and everything is homemade. Blueberry pancakes are awesome!

Travis

OK I'll chime in...Dont get out of Taos much but if your in town... and hungry Micheals will give you a plate FULL... I like the poor mans for breakfast with green. Or openface burger with green for lunch. As for Taco stands... have to go with Elmas... She an I were class mates in HS a long long time ago. And I judge all RED against hers its the BEST! Her green... sorry to say sucks. She is on the north side and her sister is on the south side (Mary Janes) same food. My Wife makes the BEST green on the planet!! At Elmas try the frito pie RED or a Chicarron Burrito with RED... The best Chicarron around, she also has killer Carnitas.
Bon Apetit

Cant get through Santa Fe with out stopping at
Maria's across the street from Trader Joe's the wife goes to both of them no matter what.

I have had pie in Pie Town. My wife makes a better crust.

+1 on both.............and how did I forget about my local Pielife,LOL.
Sydney & Kathy @ Pie-o-neer make a good pie of many sorts.
I still haven't decided if my pop's crust was better, but might someday.....

I've eaten at both Big Daddys and the Mayhill Cafe this past season. Mayhill Cafe got a face lift and the food is much better too. The breakfast menu was really good, especially if you like pancakes. There ain't nothing "short" in the short stack. I've eaten at Big Daddys for a number of years and found it consistently good. I really like their soups.

Ruidoso:

Breakfast: Log Cabin Restaurant

Lunch: Burgers - Lincoln County Grill
Pizza - Cafe Rio

Dinner & Margarita's: Casa Blanca

Never eat at Cattle Baron.......only tourists that don't know any better go there

+1 on the Blakes
only chain burger I will eat at besides In & Out.Haven't gotten sick yet anyway.

Tip of the day....many NM ma and pa places, cafes and other food joints outside bigger towns use local beef for their meals.
Way more better!!!

Clovistan- you have 3 choices in order:

Servicio Azteca- tampiqueno steak, no question, but everything is good and the salsa bar takes the cake

Mamacita's is a close 2nd

El Puesto- roach coach on Main just north of 60/84. Super legit. Best bfast burritos in town

Ruidoso: Hall of Flame, Cafe Rio, Jorge's & Texas Club (great ribeye but a little pricey)
Alamogordo: Pizza Mill
Las Cruces: Chope's, The Pit Stop (GC cheeseburger), El Sombrero & ChaChi's
Hatch: Sparky's

Never pass an Allsup's without getting chimichangas with extra taco sauce. FYI they sell taco sauce by the bottle now!

Cloudcroft -
Big Daddy's is good food but a long wait.
Mad Jack's Mountaintop BBQ - very good pulled pork sammies, mac'n cheese with lots of bacon

Mayhill -
Mayhill Diner has great donuts (all I have had there)

Demming/Akela Flats -
Adobe Deli - great steaks, ribs, French onion soup

Las Cruces : Andeles, El Sombrero, La Posta, De La Vegas, Chopez

Roswell: Big D's ( Ranked one of the Best burgers in the Nation.) Plus their garlic fries are awesome!

Artesia: Adobe Rose, Well head, La Heradura, Piccolinos, The Paddock Cafe

Mayhill/ Cloudcroft: Mayhill Cafe, The western Bar and Grill

Ruidoso: Lincoln County Grill, Casa Blanca, The Texas Club, log Cabin

Carlsbad: Chilis.

@ NMPaul

Roswell: Red Onion, Portofinos (italian), D's Downtown Dive. If all else fails, stop by the old man's house. Always open to hunters and probably the best home made food in town.

Artesia: Wellhead

Cloudcroft: Let's not forget Mad Jacks which just opened. Stopped by the other day...very solid BBQ!

This thread is already paying off. Tried Capital cafe in Roswell, and better than anything I have had in Roswell.

May try one of the spots in Artesia today.

I have found Artesia to be full of oil, grease and overpriced motel rooms................reminds me of Bakersfield...with OUT $10 rooms....maybe a little better air.
Good luck, take Tumms and Kaopectate Paul,LOL.

Lived in Santa Fe for 3 years?some 7 years ago?then it was

Burgers-Bobcat Bite?best burgers anywhere.

Mexican-Tortilla Flats?Tomasitas

Albuquerque- Sandia Casino?all you can eat seafood buffet. Believe it was Friday or Saturday nights at the time. Can't beat all you can eat shrimp, crab, etc.

Barbecue- Rudy's?best brisket in querque!
