!!!!!!!!!!!!!ZOWIE!!!!!!!!!!!! Ive been applying for the archery for years, w/ no luck. Ill be in AK this archery season so I put in for rifle and BAM! My daughter drew the archery last year for there but hurt her arm in volleyball and was unable to shoot her bow.

life IS good!!!

So if I understand your quote above, this means YOU got a Rifle tag for the unit, is that right?

Good luck on the hunt if this is correct.

Brian

Thanks and yes, Im the lucky one this year.I always put in for archery there w/no luck drawing. Since I will be out of state in archery season I applied same unit for rifle. Excuse me while I go buy a lottery ticket.

Congrats life! It warms my heart when I see somebody draw a dream tag. I just acquired another bonus point. Oh well. Can't wait to see pics.

Thanks guys, Its nice to hear SOMONE is OK with me drawing (first limited elk tag I ever drew), I have been applying since I was old enough to hunt. All I got was jealous slack from my so called freinds today, now I remember why I hunt alone.
Anyway, I would feel guilty, but Ive always been in the "Not Succesful" catagory so Ill take this and run with it. I WILL utilize it too, at least spend every second I can looking for the bull Ive always worked my butt off for. Im not afraid to tag a cow the last day for meat and let the 330 bull grow up if thats what it takes. Promise to post pics, even if I tag a cow.

life IS good (really good tonight)

congrats, that IS a dream tag!

i hope you work on access long before the hunt. if you have access, bagging a 330 bull should not be a problem.

best of luck to you.

Im not afraid to eat this tag or put it on a cow. No offense but after hunting on my own since I was a little tike and seeing several big bulls downed in MT, NM, and ID where I guided for over 15 years I would really like to call something 370+ my own for once. I will not pull the trigger on anything grossing under 350 and will be holding out for 370 till the last day I hunt there. Mark my word on that. I havent pulled the trigger or launched an arrow at a muley buck for 10 years now, looking for 200+ gross and I hunt like a nut each fall looking for one. Never bothers me a bit to see the sun set on the last day on a 175 deer. Our freezer is always full of whitey does and other game my daughters and wife shoot.
Alot of people say Im all BS, but that Im not. I guess I set my standards unrealistically because I love to hunt and I love the challenge. Finding a 370 bull, even in that area WILL be a challenge.
A "TROPHY" is in they eye of the beholder. A forkhorn mule deer or a cow elk is EVERY BIT AS MUCH OF A TROPHY as the bull I am looking for, and sometimes more, when its a kids first animal, or grampas last elk, or anything in between.
Anyway, with that said, I appreciate your congratulations, and IF I harvest a bull, it will be the one I have hunted for my whole life.

Hey lifeisgood, I hear you. Go get a big one, and if you don't, who cares. Having a goal to go after with a tag like that is is as important as drawing the tag. I drew 622-20 2 years ago, and I wanted a 370+ bull or else. Lot's of bulls most people would die for were in my scope. I shot a 5 point on the last day. That hunt (two separate trips) is the best hunting experience I've ever had. After you cut your tag, send me a pic. mtmuley

Glad to hear you drew the tag. The fish and game apparently decided to double the permits in this area, but I still couldn't get one.

Anyway, do you know some people from the area. There is very little, actually no public land with a resident herd of elk. If you hold out and can find access for more than a few days at a time you should be able to harvest a nice bull.

Again, congrats on the tag. Please be sure to post pictures this fall.

Montana is my favorite state to hunt and one of my hunting buddies from MT lives in Havre. He has shown me pictures of unit 690 monster bulls that his friends have taken during the archery season. I can't wait to see the picture of the bull you kill this year! Best of luck and look forward to the pictures of that 360+ bull dog. Have a great season, I did not draw MT this year after four straight years, but got a New Mexico mature bull tag for early muzzleloading. I always have bow huntied elk, so this will be a new experience shooting a smoke pole of which I don't shoot all that well compared to my bow.
