Theres is unit 9 and 10 and my fav I wont mention with early bull tags. How many guys actually kill a bull over 340?

I actually think a 340 bull is a damn nice bull btw

Wish G&F kept records of yearly scores per unit,

Couple years ago I remember some guy proudly displaying
a 300 ish kinda bull between his tent and the rd on opening day of an early bull season.

not that theres anything wrong with that .

I had no tag just up there.

Congrats to those that drew. Cant wait for some picts

Some folks hunt a lifetime and never see a 300" bull let alone kill one. Especially with a bow.

The way I look at it any legal bull is a good one. Everyone is hunt up on score and trying to kill a monster.

Just my 2 cents,

Archer

I'll be perfectly honest here. People hunt elk for various reasons, but my main one has always been to eat, and my family loves them. Mule, Coues, and whitetail deer and turkeys have always been the trophies in the past. Usually shoot the first legal elk I see in my hunt. I have never drawn a bull tag until now, after all these years of trying in multiple states, and have wanted an Arizona trophy bull for a while. I have killed 22 elk in 29 years - 14 cows and 8 bulls, but have never killed a 6 pt. Big 300 class 5 pts. - yes, but never that last little point. I always figure those 330+ bulls are the 5-10% cream of the crop. I will do the best I can on my Unit 8 tag, and fill it at the end with whatever makes me happy.

A 340 bull is a great bull..We AZ boys are spoiled and only the best hunting videos get us excited. My best bull is a 340" and was happy as a puppy with 2 wangers to get him.

How about this....unit 1 used to be awesome but you don't really hear much about it or 27 anymore these days. Why is that? I can't remember the last time I heard of anyone getting a moster out of either of those areas.

Even on a early rifle trophy elk hunt in Arizona, I bet 80% of the hunters go home with a 350 or smaller bull. Arizona has big bulls, but to tag a big bull is harder to do than most people think....

Although 300+ bulls are not around every bush, here in AZ if you draw a rut hunt, and have the self control to pass on the smaller bulls a 320+ bull is very achievable in most all units...Especially if you plan on hunting hard for a good week or more.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-28-06 AT 04:35PM (MST)[p]Az trophy, you are right, units 1 and 27 probably both hold bulls over 375.

I think that really good elk hunters after and able to close the deal on the biggest bull on the mountain are hard to find.

you cant become an elk hunter if you only go once every 6 years

lets face it once every 6 years is optimistic for an AZ resident wanting a late bull tag, forget about early

So what are the best options for a guy wanting to go every year?
and not spend 20K

Just a chance to go and kill an elk? so when you do do get THAT tag your ready...

where? thanks

Oh and my answer or guess to your question is that no really serious hunters have had a 1 or 27 tag in the last year or so
my guess... arrogant ass that I am

Huh? All I'm saying is that the general focus these days in on 9, 10, & 3 somewhat. Unit 1/27 used to be the cream of the crop for elk hunting but it's not anymore. Don't get me wrong, there are big bulls in there but the other units I mentioned just kind of took everything over. Other than that I don't really understand what you're getting at.

not getting at anything, your right 9,10 etc seem to get all the attention. I should learn not to post after A long day

I dont get it either the 1 and 27 thing

I drew unit 27 late bull last year after 9 years of applying.
I hunted an area that has low elk density but good size resident bulls. Hunted my butt off but did not score. Saw a picture of a bull taken during that hunt that grossed 393" I found a sapling that was scraped 7' high, I would love to see the bull that made it!

Unit 1 and 27 suck. The wolves ate all the good bulls, the only thing left is weener bulls.

I think the wolves ate all the good deer too! Saw nothing but dinks and 1 good whitetail last year.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-31-06 AT 08:55AM (MST)[p]1 & 27 always kicks out some good bulls. Check out www.arizonabiggamehunting.com I dont know if he has 2005 bulls on there yet but 2004 bulls are shown. Duwane Adams camp always kills one or two big ones........... Thanks, Allen Taylor......

Just like a lot of people say, Any bull tag in any unit in the state and you have a chance at taking a big bull. I have a unit 23 archery bull tag and I still have a chance at big bulls. Especially when I have friends that live in Young.
