KTC.....which load and bullet for the 400"????

KTC,

You have been far to quite since you drew that coveted early season limited entry rifle "rut" hunt!!!

A few months ago you were still playing around with those 300 Win loads and did not have them dialed in yet.

So...what ya gunna use?

Barnes Triple Shock ( no you do not like copper..to bad ), interlock, accubond, etc, etc?

Come on.....what manufacturer and what grain of bullet?

If you are really nice, I will loan you my 300 WSM Camo with 180 grain Barnes Triple Shocks that shoots "LIGHTS OUT".

It had better be a good round if I am with you!! I better not have to go three ridges over to help find your "gimped" 400" bull that is behind every tree on that unit.

Heck with hiking over three ridges. I will just tell you where is is from my chute plane!

KTC is out of town until tomorrow. (I think?) He has been out spending all of his money on new toys for his hunt and went to test them out with the family this weekend.

He has been playing with the 300 for the past several months and has so many recipes it would make Martha Stewart blush. He has finally settled in on one, but I don't know the specifics.

Seems like a waste of time, money, and effort. We all know that anyone with a sharp stick is going to kill a 400 bull.

I ended up choosing the Scirocco II and 72.0 grains of H4831. I think I suck at bench shooting. Some groups were just over an inch and a few of them were just bad. You are right, I am not into the copper thing.

SaddleSore is right, I was out trying out my new toy. I need a personalized license plate for it. Any ideas for a aluminum gooseneck horse trailer w/living quarters? I was thinking PALAMINOCLUB? Maybe MUSTANGRANCH?

Now that I have a tag in hand I plan on camping high by Jones Corral. This should give me ample glassing area to whack a 400 bull as far as the eye can see. I am seriously thinking of a 30-378 to extend my range to 2000 yards. What is the maximum lobbing range of the short magnum? Should be able to down a 400 bull from camp? No need to hike 17 miles a day right? Maybe if I get bored I will make a spear from a pinyon and rock to make this a worthy challenge?

I was hoping to see you in camp. I figure I can load you up and lead you out?

I sure hope this is as easy as people think, but I know better. I think I will stick with if it looks like a solid built bull that looks good mounted I will shoot. I am taking gas donations if any fellow MM brotha's want to help out?

KTC,

Any group 1" to 2" at 100 yards will be fine.

You will not have to shoot over 50 yards out of your new living quarters when we call that 400 into you.

How many horses are you bringing?

At least those Dutton bulls do not have to much to worry about from those archers that go before you.

Sorry buddy, 2 horses only. 1 for me and one is for SaddleSore's sore ass. I only own one. I made SaddleSore buy one.;-) I wish I had more but $336 at the vet today makes me realize why one is too many.

What do you mean Jones Corral right? That is the place to be. Everything is downhill from there right?

You cannot come down. You even said yourself "The last time I see Dutton is in my rearview mirror." It was not that bad was it? I mean, look what I went and done. I was begging SaddleSore to take that worthless Dutton tag back for a refund and bonus points reinstated.

To answer you earlier question, no I am not nervous. How nervous can I get knowing I can shoot a 400 from any ridge, in my truck, with my 30-378, while drinking?

I am excited. I hope it is better than last year though. Some of these retards think it is easy, but last year was far from it. I will hopefully get a 350+ and these hard asses around here will tell me how bad I fugged it all up. So I ain't tellin' what I get or don't get. I will send you a picture though.;-) I hope it is not a "pisscutter."

I hope the archers do well. I have some contacts and if they do well it will help me do well. We are going down a week from today. Hopefully the velvet is getting rubbed and the bulls are thinking about getting horny. We will be riding Jones Corral, Cottonwood Peak, and Winnemucca Flats.;-)

I feel good about my rifle. If it misses it will be my fault. I will be shooting it again next weekend.

How was the the new cowboy cabin? I would go a little further south than Jones Corral where the fire burnt, Those 400 bulls are out in the open, no trees to hide behind.

As far as a plate I would go with HORSHSE.

It was great. However, how great can it be when a wall tent was the best I could do before? No, it is real nice and am going to enjoy it. You bring up a great point, why go high in the pines when the trees are burnt down low? Now I really need that 30-378! Maybe we can catch up next weekend. I will really let you know where I will be and it AIN'T Jones Corral!

I like buzz worms. They taste great! Not really, but they can make things interesting. I like horny toads better. You can still go if you want?!?!? Unit 8 in Arizona is not that great is it?;-) You guys have to hunt with a bow during the rut in Arizona. Utard lets the big guns out during the HEAT OF THE RUT.

Score is only for magazines to make money and half the stories are B.S. on how they harvested them anyway.

You are on the wrong track buddy. I was thinking the tag should read CASH.;-) Maybe MYBULLISINTHEOTHERTRUCK? How about 363BULL? I have to beat SaddleSore by one point!

This is going to be so easy who needs to get up before noon. I hear the 400 bulls are walking around trying to get shot all day long. I plan on getting up by noon and drinking by 3 so I will have 3 hours to watch the roads and camp.

No, this is getting more exciting by the day. It will not be long now. We will have a stress free and fun hunt. I hope any how. Patience, patience, patience, right?
