I would like to know if anybody is using decoys on their elk hunts. Do they work, which is the best to use, and what is the ideal setup? Post you success stories please.

I asked this ame question a week or two back, not many replies though. I have a Montana Elk3 , and have heard great things about them. I will be bow hunting alone this Sept , but have experianced a few times where a bull comes in to my cow calls but hangs up just out of bow range looking for the cow. I've talked to a couple archery hunters who swear by it , the bulls see the decoy and committ to coming in as long as the wind is your favor. It makes sence , so I'll be packing my decoy hoping for a chance to pull wool....I'd like to hear some other hunters thoughts on them too though..

I don't think you can beat the Montana decoys. I have a Montana and an old Feather flex. We've had good luck with both but the Montana just looks so much better. We often set them up together for evening calling and once the bull sees the decoy, we shut up.

I killed my largest bull in 1997 (340 6 X 7) in part due to my feather flex. I was set up on a water hole and a bull and cow came in to water. I had missed a bull that morning by shooting high and was all wigged out about the previous miss. When I released the arrow, I peaked and dropped my bow which made me clip the bull in his knee. The cow with him bolted, but the bull jumped and then looked right at my decoy. I cow called hard and he looked at the bush I was in and then at the decoy. After about a minute or so of looking back and forth between me and my bush he walked about ten yards closer, turned broadside and started drinking again. I knocked another arrow and this time shot without thinking and made a perfect shot.

Would I have killed that bull without my decoy? I seriously doubt it.

Montana decoys are what i like. Fold up small. Light.

Instead of the stakes. Leave them at home. Just get a string tie both ends up so that you can hang it in a tree.

"INSTANT ELK"
look back about a year ago.
these decoys dont shine out on you in the light.
or turn white with glair.
they are nearly life size.
and are easly toted about.
they set up in seconds.
the problem is the guy thet manufactures
them doesn't have the time to produce any.
