unit 61- cow hunt

My friend has an early season cow tag for 61. I am going to go along because we hunt together and I may draw a bull tag here in the next couple years. WE have never been to the area and will be coming down several days before the opener. Does anyone have suggestions on a starting point? From what I have read on this site finding a cow shouldn't be to tough but I want to see what happens and see what we see for bulls during this first hunt.

Unit 61 is a very large unit. If you are coming in from the north, check out the basin at the head waters of Calamity Creek & Cow Creek. The Ute trail runs right through it. Also, up on the plateau you may check out the area north to northwest of the Divide Campground.

Hunted 3rd season last year, very warm, but saw a lot of elk bunched together.
