Hey, has anyone seen velvet coming off yet? If so, what state? Any bugles yet? The few I have seen still have it.

Thanks.

I was up scouting the other day around 2 weeks ago and heard a bugle. I could only see spikes and cows but the bull bugled 3-4 times in the middle of the day around noon. Good luck to ya KTC! Make sure you take a moment each day of your hunt to "smell the roses"! It will be over before you know it!

Spotted two 300" bulls in Oregon the other day. One with velvet one without, no bugles as of 8.8.06!

quickdraw,

I am heading to Dutton on Friday so I guess that is good news! I need elk getting active and moving to rut areas so this is the first step.

SS, On 7-29 I heard, while talking to my uncle up in Logan, what we both thought was a weak and short bugle. It was where he was showing me where a herd of elk rut? I saw a small 5 point 2 days later and he was in full velvet on 7-30.

I am expecting the elk scene to get rolling anytime now.

The Dutton already has several bulls cleaning off and bugling in several spots but mostly down on the southwest end of the unit. PM me for some areas to look at this week if you're interested in any help.

ktc!!!

EVERYTHING I'VE SEEN IS FULL VELVET!!!

BUT I'M NO HELP ON YOUR UNIT ANYWAY!!!

THIS SONOFABEACHIN NOMAD BUCK SURE IS A LAZY LITTLE BASTARD!!!

THE ONLY bobcat THINKING ktc IS ABOUT TO GET THROWED OUT OF THE HOUSE,IT MUST BE A GOOD FEELING THOUGH???

Idaho, saw one really nice bull 360-370. Velvet hanging everywhere. Looks like they are starting anyway. All the little bull still covered.

Thanks ALOT Jim. Thanks for the kind words but, I'm wondering if you got a spare atv as mine is in several pieces? Just kidding, I hope I will be of help to ktc he seems like a good guy and deserves a enjoyable hunt. Good luck to all who are lucky enough to have a LE tag here in Utah. I am jealous big time.

I saw a 280-300 inch 6x5 completely rubbed off on 8/13. He was still pretty white. No bugles though. He did stink pretty bad though! Won't be long. Oh-this was on Diamond Mountain in NE Utah.

At the Sneekee show in St. George last weekend they had two live bulls there on display and one of them was just starting to rutt pretty hard.

Most of the bigger bulls are rubbed now. Out of the 25-30 bulls I saw on Monday, ther were only a handfull with velvet still intact and they were the smaller bulls. I even saw one that had to have been rubbed a couple of weeks ago because he was working on his ivory tips. Good looking bull too.
