Looks like the mountain range above Fillmoe is burning pretty good. Good luck to all you who have ELK tags. A lot of the unit has burned this year. The elk might move onto the Beaver or Fish Lake units.

Are you reffering to the fires that burned up and down I15 a few weeks ago, or is this a new fire up on the high stuff. Im heading down there next week, might need to bring my squirt gun. My cousin has an LE archery tag.

New as of yesterday evening. Flared up big time today! You can see the flames and smoke from I-15 really well. There are a lot of planes and heli's throwing down spray.

Where did you get your information? I checked the Utah Fire Info web site and they report NO fires anywhere Fillmore. Are you just trying to start a rumor?

"Keep yer powder dry n yer eye on the skyline!"

Most of the fires burned south of filmore on both sides of I-15 south of Kanosh to cove fort. There was another fire north of Kanosh but it was down low. I don't think it has burnt much if any on top. I've been scouting with a friend that has an archery elk tag down there and elk activity seems to be normal. I'll have to post some pics if we get one!

I'm working in Fillmore right now and watched the fire the past two days. Yesterday afternoon they set a back fire and did a good job controlling it. It is currently still burning a little but is mostly out. It burned a good chunck of ground but mostly lower ground so the hunting will be fine.

hey bournloungekid, good luck on the scouting trip. I heard the mossback boys are already watching a bull up there that is supposed to be the new state record typical. I guess well find out.

My buddy and I are good friends with one of the mossback guides. If he didn't have clients to take already he would take us. We know the area pretty good. Hey they probaly said the same thing about that last year, huh? But someone else shot him and my buddy has his shed antlers from the year before. So you never know what will happen!

Thats what I heard a legit 430 inch net bull. I haven't heard if they got him, but I know that some of Mossback's finest have a close eye on him. Hopefully those boys can connect on him and put the footage in an upcoming mossback video, or maybe in the eastmans publication.

430 in a monster for sure. I think he will be shot in the archery hunt, or gov tag. I wonder if we cut some more tags, (and provide less opportunity) if we could get a 440-450 net bull? Is'nt that the goal to set a new state record every year? Make conservation tags worth more money? I for one think we can have super quality and provide more opportunity with a few changes in hunts and season dates. Management bull hunts etc. Similar to Arizona, Nevada, and New Mexico. Not asking to change to Colorado, and Idaho management. Not trying to change this thread. Could someone from the elk committee give us an update? Thanks, Greg

LAST EDITED ON Aug-28-06 AT 01:49PM (MST)[p]Oh yea, thats exactly what we need. Another unit to provide quality hunts for the wealthy..... Hell... im sure every person with elk points would gladly give them up provided some guy who buys a conservation tag kills the new state record. While we are at it... why not make the uintas a draw unit? We should try and produce a 400 incher out there and start selling more conservation tags...

JUDAS!!!!!!! Sorry to rant.. but give me a break.

Hopefully just some dude whos been putting in for the tag for 15 years and doesn't have a pack of guides out looking for bulls for him gets it.

Theres so damn many people down there this year scouting for their "Clients" I cant imagine anyone can truely concider this "fair chase" anymore. The top bulls down there have people following them 24/7 atm.

Its going to be an absolute circus when all of these groups try and get their "client" the shot on a target when its 12 clients and 60 guides all going for the same animal.

browtine, If you read my post you would see how sarcastic I was. I just think limited entry elk is more of a circus myself. One hunter and 5-10 spotters. The new state record will be set again this year. At least 5 400 inch bulls will be harvested in Utah this year. Wait and see.

I got the sarcasm... You hit the nail right on the head... I have been on a few LE units this year and its killing to see so many nice animals and know I will probably not know how it feels to hunt them.

sound like you you just have to follow the pickups to find a good bull so you bowhunters just wait outside of town and follow the biggest group up the hill. <LOL>

I agree, that unit is a flat out circus, 100 guides/spotters fighting for that big ole monarch for there clients. They have picked up the sheds for this hass for the last two years. According to my sources, this bull if harvested, will indeed be the new Utah state record. It's a flat out toad of bull! It's hangin on the north end right now, but rummored to move south to breed some of them cows in that area.

littlecaseof200itus,

this bull a typical, non typical? 6x6 or what? Have you ever seen the bull? Sounds like a monster.

He is a typical. I know that the guys that found him first do not have clients at all. In fact most of the guys I have run into up there are scouting for themselves. But as usual everybody is going to scream and point the finger at anybody how is up there scouting is not welcome, especially if they don't personally have a tag. In fact I think everybody up there right now is just caring a bow for looks. They are actually trying to find a 450 bull to get the dirty $10,000.

Thats right he's typical, I know some boys are up there guiding archery hunters right now on him, but I haven't heard if they got him.
