My grandfather drew out for bookcliffs bitter creek region after 14 years of applying. He has a disease called (GBS) Which has handicaped him pretty bad. He has hunted out there for years for deer before it was closed off due to limited entry. With being handicaped his hunt is extended for an extra thirty days ( From Sept. 17th until middle of october.) We are looking for either a reputable guide in the area or information to lead us to a descent bull elk. Last year my grandma had the same tag ( she also is sick with severe emphysema and she lasted out there two weeks with limited hunting.) We had a hard time finding elk and when we did the elevation was to hard for her to even drive up there to look. Any help would greatlly be appreciated.

You don't need a guide in there. There are 320" bulls everywhere. Not many bigger though. I hunted it in 97' and every bull I saw taken was within 10" in size. Just camp at the roadless area trailhead, and hunt all the draws to the east. No problem. The rifle hunters will move them out of there opening morning though. Just get there early and pick one out. Don't pass on a 330".

I am sorry I wasn't clear. We are in the roaded area out of vernal. We just need help finding a descent bull, score means nothing to us "290 to 400". We are out for the experience, if we shot a 400" bull it would mean the same as a 200" inch bull. Last year we had a hard time finding them out there, and just need a little help. Information would be great, or just show up for are two week camp out. Food will free.

LAST EDITED ON Aug-17-06 AT 05:48PM (MST)[p]I didn't pull out my regulations, but I think what you are saying is you are north of there. I believe they split the unit from when I was there. Can't help you with the north area. Someone here should know. Try posting on the Bowsite Utah page.
