Elk from a way back

I got this Roosevelt elk back in '92 during a Limited Entry Hunt on the island. It was shot near last light so we cleaned it and came back for it in the morning. We brought the packs, axe, and dog back in the morning and when the dog did not want to get within a 100 yards of it we thought it was because of the smell. Just as we finished quatering it out, a big Vancouver island black bear moved in the bushes about 50 yards away. As neither my dad or I didn't pack our gun back in (that was the last time I did that, no matter how hard it is to carry with a full back) I banged the axe on a rock and watched the bear watch me as my dad carried quater by quater a few hundred yards away. He sat there content to wait for us to leave..Nice bear. I guess I should of trusted the dogs instincts and been on the look-out.

If we're not supposed to eat animals, why are they made of meat?

I just watched a special on two bear attacks on the island. I guess they both happened on the same day too. They both had their guns and got shots in, but were mauled. The difference is that they were both alone.

I bet that was a pretty exciting/scary. Now thats hunting....
