SCI vs B&C

Forgive me for my ignorance but what is the difference between an elk (or any animal for that matter) scored SCI as opposed to B&C. Sometimes magazines will have a certain animal scored one way then another a different way. For some reason I had always thought that SCI scored animals were taken behind a high fence but I have no idea why I thought that. Anyways if someone could clear that up for me I would appreciate it.

The B&C score is after deductions or net score, harvested with a rifle or bow. SCI is the total antler/horn or gross score, harvested with a rifle or bow.

B&C is for North American game animals only taken fair chase and with any weapon, Pope and Young is bow only. SCI is for game world wide killed with any weapon fair chase or not. SCI dosn't take deductions and their scoring system is different on some animals, like some of the measurments on moose you double and I have no idea why other than to make yourself feel better. SCI minimums to enter are much lower also, most people on MM have an animal that would make the SCI book. outfitters often use SCI scores because they are more impressive or if the animal was taken high fence they have to use SCI.

Huntindude,

I stand corrected. Thank you for your precise clarification.

P&Y allow antlers scored in the *VELVET*. B&C will allow archery animals but only if the velet is stripped off.
