Oregon Hunters

Any Oregon hunters out there, has anyone see anything big this year so far in eastern oregon? I cant wait till controlled rifle buck season SEP. 30th baby, and 2st season rocky mountain elk. Iv seen some nice 4 pointers in Malhuer unit, and a nice 6point herd bull. Where have you spotted some dandys this year. Hey any archery hunters tag out yet?

The only big deer and elk I've seen are on tv. I hope that will change in 4 days when our party heads east to Desolation. I have both a Buck and Elk archery tag. As always I'm keeping my fingers crossed to find a bruiser. Hopefully I'll bring back some good pictures and some tasty steaks!

I called in a silent 5pt last night in the North Cascades. The wind was blowing REAL hard. I'd setup and been calling on and off for 25-30 minutes when came in, but he hit my wind when he was quartering to me at 30 yards.

AHH man I hate when when they catch wind. I'v never hunted the cascades but are the elk considered roosevelt or rocky mountian. I got a controlled bull elk rifle tag for desolation, and buck rifle for Paulina, cant wait.

They call them Cascade Roosevelt for the Oregon Big Game Records, but B&C and P&Y classify them as Rocky Mtn's.

The bull's on the lower west slope resemble Roosevelt because many of the herds originated thru transplants from Jewell Elk Refuge.

The bulls up high near the crest of the mountains look like Rockies though, and many of the elk migrate east to winter range.

manny15...the whole northwest corner is closed to public access as of this time. There's 9 fires burning up there. I doubt if they allow access to the whole Aldrich Mtn range this fall, even after the fires are out.

Expect to see alot of feral horse's!
