Took a freind up to a honey hole on the manti, he has a LE archery tag. Lots of tracks, no elk sightings. Things were so quite, is anyone hearing the elk, I ran into a herd on strawbery last weekend that was very vocal, several bulls competing for cows. The Manti was a different story, very quiet. Any one else had any luck yet.

Could be because of all the ATV traffic that is going on up their! What a Joke!

Good Luck,

Maybe,

We hiked down in a canyon about 3 miles though, and still nothing, in fact all the sign was up within 1/2 mile of the road. the further down in the canyon we got the less wildlife there was. WEIRD! Do any of you think the Cow hunts are taking there toll on the unit. I don't seem to be seeing the elk numbers that we use to 5 years ago.

They are noisy on the Nebo. They are moving around alot though so I only found them every few days passing through an area, other days it was quiet. I stuck a cow last night :)

They have been really spotty so far. I have been in a canyon where the elk are very vocal the night before and then returned to the draw the next day only to see the elk but didn't hear a bugle or a cow chirp. It was strange. Don't give up. The rut is just around the corner. They should start picking up this weekend with the cooler weather.

We were up on the Manti last weekend and the elk were bugling pretty good. They sang us to sleep at night, and woke us up in the morning.

Elk numbers are down on the Manti by about 2,000 head. The bull/cow ratio is all messed up and the cow hunts are definitely a part of that problem.

As for bugling, I think the hot weather has put a damper on some bulls and the rut is getting a slow start this year. The experts say weather doesn't influence the rut, but I know what I see.

I've had some good conversations with elk up north, but most of the bulls I've seen are still alone and far from the cows. I'm usually starting to see some harems forming up by now.

I was up around strawberry today and didn't hear any until we started calling, but as soon as we called they became very vocal. We called in a spiker to about 8 yards to bad we weren't hunting.
