Here is a picture of the first elk I have taken with archery equipment. I harvested it on Aug. 27th on public land in Colorado. Just goes to show that with preparation, perserverence and LUCK, a big bull opportunity can happen. The detailed story will follow in the near future. I estimate a B&C score of 344 with a 348 gross- quite symmetrical with lots of mass all the way up. I haven't stopped smiling since I found him, even when the pain in my legs from packing the meat back to camp flares up.

Thats a beautiful bull. Congratulations! The pain only lasts a short time :).

Take care,
Dave

That is an awesome Bull! The fact it was DIY makes it even sweeter. Enjoy the smile for a good while you earned it.

Congratulations on an awesome Bull!! Was this your first archery trip for Elk?

Looking forward to your story.

LAST EDITED ON Sep-02-06 AT 09:04AM (MST)[p]That is a great bull no matter where or how you got him. I love the mass and thirds. Very nice bull!

BTW, I read your score was an estimate? I personally think he is higher!?!?!?!?

It does look like a pith helmet doesn't it. In reality it's a camo cloth hat. The original photos are quite good, but I don't seem to have the knowledge yet of how to keep that quality when I adjust the photo to the 100K allowable picture pixel restriction for this site. I would love to get instructions from anyone who has been successful in retaining that quality. I know there are some great looking pictures being shown.

Great looking bull! Congratulations.

You can post larger photos if they are hosted on another website. I'd be happy to host them for you if you want to e-mail me the larger versions. Congrats again.

Great Bull, Now your hooked hook line and sinker, Sounds like you had a great hunt you should posted in the Hunting stories for MM.

Great bull, congratulations!! And what a bull for your 1st archery kill!! I agree it looks bigger than 350 especially with those monster 3rds (hopefully it isnt shadows). What part of the state if you dont mind.?
Thanks for sharing!
Jeff

That right there is what it's all about! Nice work, the pain only makes the victory that much sweeter. Thanks for sharing the pic

I am trying to see if I can post a better picture by using the suggestion that I use a photo hosting website. Thanks, it looks like it worked. Also, yes he does have great thirds.

Another great picture. I admit I am jealous!! Hopefully I am in your shoes in a couple weeks!! Did you call him in?
Thanks again.Jeff

COngrats! That is an awesome bull! I absolutely love those thirds and the mass on the backend is great!!! I would have to agree with what someone else said, looks like he scores a bit higher than the 340's. I shot a 340 bull a few years back, and the thirds on my bull aren't half of what your bull has.

Congrats again!! Sweet bull.!

No I did not call him in. I felt I didn't want any indication being signalled of where I was at a major trail crossing. If I hadn't gotten one early Sunday (which I did) while they were moving around, I might have done a little cow calling later on. I did cow call lots of cows/calfs in on saturday evening in a different area. I may have heard one bugle the three days I was there.

That's a dandy bull on almost any hunt! Nice job!

Outstanding! I can only imagine harvesting a bull 1/2 his size (well not quite... I hope) when I get my first archery tag! Major kudos and congradulations!!!!!

Congrats!
Great mass on that guy for sure!
