If this bull didn't have a club hangin would it have been legal to kill as a spike? Notice how it comes from the side of his head almost eye level.

You will want to check with F&G, but I believe in Utah if it is a spike on one side you are ok. And if it forks below the ear you are ok. Check it out for sure. Cool bull!

Hey man! Good news! If you are in Utah, go nail that sonuva gun. Just called the F&G, asked about the 5 x 1 w/drop tine club, the lady told me it's ok in spike only unit! So go get 'em. Good luck!

Washington is the same way. If it forks below the ear, like the one above, it is a legal spike. I think most states that have a spike only season are the same way. It would be worth calling your local F&W to find out for sure. Nice pictures. Good luck.

Let her rip! The way I read it is any branch above the ear is illegal, any below is legal! That is a very unique bull for sure! Good luck. Post pics when you get him!

Um, I'm sorry fellow UTards. In your excitement to see the club, did no one else but me notice that he's branch-antlered on the other side???

No way in a spike unit in Utah!!

LAST EDITED ON Sep-06-06 AT 10:17PM (MST)[p]From the UTAH Proc:

"Spike bull" means a bull elk which has at least one antler having no branching above the ears. Branched means a projection on an antler longer than one inch, measured from its base to its tip.

That guy is legal (if your in Utah), go get him!

Dang, I stand corrected! LOL....guess 'below' is definitely legal!

Cool lookin' bull, either way.

That's right he is legal in Utah! Here is what I was told by the Division.

((((((Appears to be legal to me. To qualify as a spike, a bull must have no branching above the ear on at least one side. The bull's right antler appears to have no branching above the ear. Now, that's the letter of the law. The spirit is to allow the taking of yearling spike bulls.
That's at least a two year old. Expect a warden to be called if someone sees you shoot it.

Hope this helps.))))))

So if I had the Spirit of the Wild like TED NUGENT I would let this bull walk? LOL

Well I didn't make back to this area where this bull was hanging. Instead I filled my tag on a cow. After missing a few spikes and killing a pine and a quakie. Dang branches!!!
Good luck on all your hunts. MH

Looks like she didn't make it far from where you had her tied up. ( notice the rope around the leg in the first picture.) J/K Good job man!!! Any elk with a bow is awesome!!

Sometimes you have to hog tie em first. j/k that was after my brother and I decided their was no way we were moving her anymore until I gutted her. Was trying to get her to the truck before gutting.
