Help Needed For Youth Hunt

Greetings all,

I have been pretty much a lurker on this board going back more than 7 years. I posted a picture of the bull I took last year on the Dutton... I was helped by a gentlemen that is in need of our assistance this year.

My best friend's 11 year old son was injured in a ATV accident about a month ago. I talked to my friend tonight and he is down in the dumps because his boy is back in Primary Childrens with an infection.

One of his other sons drew the Youth Hunt for Any Bull General Areas but they haven't had time to do any scouting for the Youth Hunt since before the accident.

What they are needing is just some ideas on where is a good place that may give them a shot at seeing some elk and perhaps running into a bull... nothing huge, just enough to get the youngster really into it and push the hunting bug down another generation.

So what do you say fellas? Can we provide some suggestions on where a Utah youth hunter might find a few wapiti to chase?

Always alot of elk up red cloud loop in the flaming gorege area . If the youth hunt is before the general rifle hunt it should be pretty good up there.
GOOD LUCK

The hunt starts September 15. As I understand it, he can hunt any Open-Bull unit but it is during the rut instead of in October.

Thanks for the help.

338Mag - Did the kid draw as a Res or Non-Res? Just curious as my boy was one of the 30 NR's to draw this tag. I was shocked when I found out a NR had better than a 50% to draw, while a Res had an 8% chance. Gonna have to make Resvo's in Vernal today.

Me and my boy (almost 15) will be hunting this area, but won't be there until Sunday after we travel all the was from the Great White North.

. . . and he'll be totin' my .338 Winny (of course!)

I can't scout ahead of time either, so it's scout-as-you-hunt.

I have a lot of quads and images downloaded - enuff to fill a minilla envelope. PM me if you're staying in this area and want to swap stories or scouting/sucess info over breakfast or dinner.

My son drew one of the other NR tags. He's in Utah as I write archery deer hunting. I'll be flying into SLC tomorrow to hunt deer for the last week of the season then help me for the elk hunt.

We'll start out hunting the North Slope as this is the area we're most familiar with. We lived in Utah for 15 years before relocating to South Carolina. Drop me a PM and I'll give you phone number, we can compare notes.
