After 2 1/2 weeks and 50 miles later we were rewarded with the opportunity to harvest this bull this past Saturday morning. (9/9/06)

We spotted this bull about a week and a half ago and he was running somewhere close to 100 cows. We didn't get a solid look at him, but knew he was something we wanted to go after. Unfortunately, he was hiding out in the nastiest stand of pines I think me or Chad had ever been in. We didn't see him for the rest of the week.

Saturday morning we ventured back out to our spot, and it was an entirely different canyon than the week before. The canyon was filled with screaming bulls. We heard one bugle fairly close. We crept over the ridge, spotted the herd, and immediately noticed it was him. It had been a clear night with a full moon, and they were already heading for cover before the sun came up. He was taking his cows back into his favorite stand of pines. We had to cut him off, and had a hell of a long way to go. We dumped off the backside of the canyon and proceeded to run, as we knew it was the only chance we were gonna have to get there in time. We are both in extremely good shape, but I don't think either of us had ever been so winded. We had to cut a distance of about 2000 yards, and managed to do it in about 15 minutes. We finally hit the ridge they were about to go over. We had at least 3 different bulls within a couple hundred yards of us, just going insane. We hit a clearing in the quakies, and had a bull just on the other side of them. We thought it was him. Chad was about 10 feet in front of me at this point, and at almost the same time we heard something to our right, down off the hill. We both looked over and all we could see was a 20 foot quakie being worked over by a bull 30 yards down the hill. It was him! We knelt down, I looked at Chad and he was preparing to draw back. Camera in hand, I hit the record button and crept over the ridge. The bull had no idea we were there, Chad let one fly and made a solid hit on him. The bull looked up as if someone had tapped him on the shoulder. He proceeded to walk broadside to us, and before he took 5 steps Chad had a 2nd arrow in flight. Smack! He was down. It took another arrow to finish the big guy off. I managed to capture the entire chain of events on video, it was absolutely amazing.

It was an incredible morning. I've known Chad for a long time, and I've never seen him so excited. It was definitely an experience of a lifetime. The bull grosses roughly 360.
