It was a tough hunt over in 16A for me! They were ripping in the mornings and in the evenings but did not pay much attention to calling with cow calls. Never the less I did see a lot of good bulls. I saw one bull that would go 350 or better from a mile away and never saw again. I passed a 40 yard shot at a 5x5 because I was thinking the big 7x7 would later give me a shot. I messed up on a 290 5x6. I sat for 30 minutes 62 yards from a big, wide, and massive 6x7 that was bedded thinking when he got up I might get a shot. Instead he went away and got busted by his cows when I tried to cut them off. I was lucky enough to meet up with a buddy right after that and get on a big loner 6x7 that gossed 330. My partner and I watched the bull walk up to us and stop at 12 yards. He then looked right at us and ripped off a nasty roar of a bugle before walking to 20 yards. I was so shook up about it I forgot what I was supposed to do. So my buddy stuck him and I woke up to fling a thunderhead at him at 35 yards. I missed but we got the bull with his shot and found him dead the next morning. I would have to say that it was a very successful hunt, even for me. My first time to bow hunt, my first time to 16A, and I was in the bulls every day all day. I saw at least 5 bulls between 300 and 350 over the hunt. Heck, I can't ask for much better of an elk hunt!
