Thanks to fellow MM member Nukedog. I blew a tire and was driving on a donut when we bumped into each other in Nevada's Moriah Wilderness. He was heading out with his elk for the 1 1/2 hour drive back to Ely. Gave him my GPS and he found my wheel on the road in and took it into town for replacement. This really saved at least one day of hunting for me, and removed my anxiety. This was a very remote area with nobody to help.

Actually very easy. We drove past each other and he saw my Illinois license plate. There were only 9 other NR elk tags in the entire state, and he knew where I was from.

I've actually been recognized several times by name in several states for the same reason by fellow Bowsiters. This was the first by a MM'er.

I had no idea the roads were so bad down there. Worst of anywhere I've been. Nobody mentioned it despite many research phone calls.

Zim, First of all congrats on a fine elk. just curiuos were you hunting the west or east side? I am going on a hunt in Dec and was planing on scouting that area during thanksgiving I guess I should bring a extra spare thank, Ryan

I hunted the west side. Bring 2 spare tires, seriously. Many guys do that up there. Don't go up if there is any snow at all.

There were quite a few people scouting for the muzzleloader hunt when I was there. I think I'd try the Mount Grafton area if I were you. Some locals told me the elk were nowhere to be found up there come rifle season. They migrate elsewhere. Just what I was told.

Thanks Zim, I was going to look in the eightmile area it's alittle to the north and try to get over to the Kerns also. Just trying to find an area where there wont be alot of people. The elk like to move around quite abit over there.

Nice to hear stories like these.

Congrats to both of you and your successes as well.
