Just checking to see if anyone has been in that unit lately and if they had any success? Headed that way in three weeks for ML. 1st time to hunt SW New Mexico. Hoping it is half as good as everyone says it is.

Haven't heard of much being taken out of the area. A Game & Fish officer said that during the first archery hunt, he only saw one 5X5 leave. Although, I'm sure there have been more. Spoke with a guide in there last weekend and he said they had seen a to of smaller bulls but not a whole lot over 320. Have you been down there yet? I'll be on the same hunt as you but we haven't decided yet where we're going to hunt...need one more week of hard scouting (my fisrt time in the unit too). I have a good friend at Game & Fish and he has told me the hunt should be awesome...but it sure is a differnet kind of elk country than I'm used to hunting. If you know where you're going to be camped, let me know and I'll stop in and say hi. Good luck.

Hey NMelkhunter, My hunt is with a friend / Guide. Not sure were I am staying or even what area we will be hunting. Hopefully he will have one tied up somewhere. Five days of hunting isn't very long so I don't know how picky I can be. Would like to tag a whopper but the bottom line is this is my only elk hunt so I want to make sure I bring home the bacon.
