Heres a couple picturs of a bull that was taken off the Manti unit. The hunter that was lucky enough to take this hog says that it rough scores 408. Let me know what you think.

That is a great bull, but I can't see 408... That is pretty rough scoring... but then pictures lie, too...
Just not there for me.. I'd guess closer to 375..
 
Great looking bull!! Maybe its me, maybe its the angles of the pics, but that doesnt look anywhere near being a 400 inch bull! Then again, Ive been known to wrong a time or two! I wouldve put him around 360-375"....but again, it might just be the pics!

I would have to agree with the oter posts. I only see about 358 not 408, but the picture may not do the bull justice. The front looks pretty good, but the back seems a little weak.
 
I'll admit that the pics don't do this bull any justis. Even after seeing the bull in the back of the truck I still could not see a 400+ bull. Like most of you I would be guessing a 370-380 bull. The back end is way to short and I would be supprised if the mainbeams are much if any over 45 inches long.

Great bull, but I'm not seeing even close to 400". Great bull whatever it scores.

Hate to chime in, but that is only a 350ish bull. A 350ish bull that I wouldn't even hesitate to to pull the release or trigger on.

Other than that they are very similar looking....other than the non-typical point. My bull had 50 inch mains this bull may be about that or tich shorter. I would still put this bull in the 360 range.

I love this time of year because about every other e-mail has a picture of a big bull!!! and that's cool, I don't care who you are!!!!!

My first rough guess shows 414 with 42" spread and 53" beams. Those fronts are 26" and the thirds are 29" or so IMHO!

Looks at the G5's vs. the guys head in the one pic. That thang is a monster. He's just not that wide.

I'm sorry, but there is no way that bull has a gross anywhere near 400. Great fronts, but then its downhill. That guys head behind it does make it deceiving but look at the bulls width compared to the bed of the truck. The bull has great 3rd's but the 4ths are shorter and I think he would be lucky to have 50" beams.

With that said it is a beautiful bull, but I can't see it grossing more than 365.

Like mentioned already by just about everyone, the bottom half is incredible! In my opinion, this bull is neither a 400 or a 350, but right in the middle 375. That being said, I'd pull the trigger in a heartbeat!
 
Boys you all sound like you are shocked and experts on measuring bulls. i have seen this bull up close and yes it may look weak in the back and the fronts kick some butt. but the pictures do not show the mass as good as in real life. there are some good sevens on this, in fact this bull will net over 390 and gross over 400. some of you who ripped on this hunter for thinking it is a 400 bull should re consider there words. yes pictures don't give it justice but this bull kicks butt. in fact i have been laughing my butt off reading some of the comments about this bull, and yes i have seen the bull and I do know that it was scored by an offical who is authorized to score bulls, and yes it does have to wait for it to dry for the real offical score but this bull no doubt will gross 406. the mass on this bull is by far the biggest mass you have ever seen on a bull good luck hunting this year and judging bull. there is aclass you can take aswell peace out

Guys for all of you that have made your pothetic estimations of this bull you have a lot to know bout what you all wish you could shoot.. I have this bull at my house right now and you are all welcome to come see for yourself.. It has 74 inches mass and 54 inch mains.. The backs are bit weaker but the 7's on each side are 9 inches each.. Give it up men.. And to the wannabee that killed a 340 bull and actually compared it to this; You are a pisscutter yourself..

If you will read the posts again, the comment has been made several times about pictures not showing enough to make an accurate "guesstimation". It is impossible for anyone to guess an accurate score unless you can put your hands on the antlers and see it for yourself.
For first time posters on MM, you are dumping on a lot of guys, who have seen a lot of big bulls. The guy asked what we thought, and everyone gave their thoughts and opinions. If that bull is as good as you say, Congratulations on a GREAT bull. But if it isn't as good as you say, Congratulations anyway. It is still a great bull and that has been mentioned by about everyone....
 
Based on the pictures, I agree with Tuffbucker. The bull in the truck and Tuffs bull look to be in the same age class with the one in the truck being a little larger. But since you two elk experts, who obviously know elk better than anyone on this board say so, I will call your bull 506 (he he he) just to make you feel better.

Dang that thing is huge. Look at the mass on that hog. That is the biggest bull I have ever seen, alive or dead. The guys who killed this bull must be the greatest elk hunters in the world and know how to score a bull better than anyone. Is your ego back to where you want it?

If you truly do have this bull at your house, why dont you take some better pics of it and post them up for us to see. If you go back and read the prior posts, most everyone said that their estimates were coming from what the pictures showed. The pics arent that great, so give us some better ones.

Also, can you point out where the 7th point is on the left side....you said the 7th's on EACH side were 9 inches....the only point that might be considered a 7th on the left side is the devil tine on the brow. I see the non-typical point on the rightside, but no 7th on the left.

Also, do you have a score sheet on this bull. Id be interested in seeing the measurments on this bull. THose thirds are AWESOME!

Oh yeah, and BTW. I never said this bull was comprable to my bull. I said that they had similarites..i.e. main beam length, mass, etc. I have said from the get go that this thing was much bigger than my bull. So before you go calling someone a wannabe, you better check yourself.

And which definition of "pisscutter" are you comparing me to! :)

The funny thing about this post, that 400bull started is he saw the bull and took the pictures, and doubted the judgement of many who could judge bulls pretty good, even the guide who guided the hunter in on this bull who rough scored it. I did not mean to rip on all those who posted there opinion on this bull. I did get cought up in the moment of 400bulls comments. I do know the hunter who shot this bull and he is a good man. Like i said the picture do not do justice for this bull. I apologize for my actions, like i said i got cought up in the moment. i hope to kill one just as good next week with a muzzle loader. good luck on the hunts
 
Pictures do no justice.. this we all know already.. Fact is that a monster bull gets put on here by some guy having nothing to do with the hunt of this bull and though many said "great bull" everyone of you have to put your smart comments in that try to downsize this bull. It is a freeking monster.. Lets just all be damn glad that its not Doyle Moss posting his face with another 400 bull.. If you have seen this bull in real life them you should know that it is a 400 bull.. If you say it is not then you have an issue with you judgement calls.. Again guys lets celebrate that Doyle Moss had nothing to do with this big boy..

The pictures will do it justice if you put something like a yardstick in them for a reference. Come on, put your money where your mouth is and post some more pics.

Jealous much? Doyle works hard and is good at what he does. It usually guys that dont know him that have bad things to say about him. I have only met him a handful of times, but each time I have he has been a standup guy.

Im still hoping you will post some pictures of this bull so we can truly see how much of a monster it really is, cause from the previously posted pics, i think its a GREAT bull. I would love to see pictures that would do this bull justice and show all 400 inches of him.

I want to know what Doyle has to do with this also. Doyle makes his living guiding people for trophy animals, and he does a good job of what does. I have always said it has to be a little jealousy from those who rail on Doyle. What if all the other guides killed as big of bulls as Mossback? Would you be railing on them? Doyle is a stand up guy and I'm proud to call him a friend. He is hired to do a job and he does it.
My son works for Doyle and I know all his guides work very hard to produce the animals they harvest.
Nobody one the post has downgraded your bull, just stated that from the pictures, it doesn't appear to be a 400 bull. That doesn't mean it is not, again, they are just opinions.
 
I have hunted with Doyle.. The gilson bull is freeking awesome. I knew that bull for three years.. In fact it was shot 3 mile from my cabin.. Ok im sorry bout Doyle comment.. Not! No wonders its a blunder and no one cares that guys that dont know how to hunt from out of state and doyle brings em in and hunts these bulls.. To me that is b.s. Just my opinions just as all you posted your opinions about this bull. And for the record Ididnt post the pics of this bull... None the less I will be posting better pics so you can see the 9 inch 7's on both sides.. Funny how a guy is proud of a bull he got and a bunch of hunting experts put there two cents in instead of just saying its a great bull. But instead saying " guy who scored this must of had too much to drink. We kill atleast 3 370 bulls every year for the last 4 years.. But you guys are the experts.. For hell sakes just say its a kick butt bull and leave the stupid comments of trying to downgrade a bull that is a smoking bull...
 
It is a kick ass bull and one I would take in a heartbeat. I'll be the first to admit I was wrong, if you can show me pics to prove me wrong. In fact, I hope I have to eat crow...because that would mean that another 400" bull has been taken this year.

Your issues with Doyle really have nothing to do with this. From the sounds of it, your real issue is non-resident hunters. If not, then I hope you are ready to talk smack about all the other guides in Utah that are willing to take money from non-residents to guide them to trophy animals!

Just curious, who was the guide on this hunt?

Heres an idea. Don't post the score and just say its a monster.
I think all here will agree that its an awesome bull. Congrats to the hunter. But it doesn't look like a 400 bull from those pictures. But appearently you are the only expert scorer here. No one else has ever seen a bull over 300, so we wouldn't know.
Again, awesome bull. We will be waiting for more pics.
 
This sounds like one of those "I scout all year, so these are my Elk, get off my public land" kind of guys.....

Awesome bull no matter what he scores. To be honest, I'm looking forwad to seeing some better pic's of this bull.....especially because I can't see where the heck that 9" 7th is on the bulls left side. His right side is obvious...but his left side?

No matter what, thanks for posting the pic's! It's always fun seeing new bulls come in as I'm sitting at my office plugging away on my PC just wishing I was out there..
 
Sounds like the same story I told my wife about my manhood. It is still good size though is what she tells me.
 
looked at this post for awhile and at first didn't think it would go 400"
but put some conservative numbers on it like: 20" to 21" for each of the first three tines and 18" for the fourth, 9" for the fifth plus 50" main beams and circumf's at 12, 8, 8, and 8"
then a 42" spread and 8" for the extra on one side and came out with a conservative gross of 400.
The pics are difficult to judge from for sure

I dont know the guy that posted the pics. I will post different ones then all will be answered quickly.. Guy mills (gooch) was the guide.. You will also see this bull in boone and crocket state records in the top 12 or wherever it nets.. Todd was the hunter.. Now I gotta go kill myself a monster for the 5th year in a row so see ya all later.. I will also post the other 2 bulls we kill with muzzleloader this next week.. To the guy the gave it a conservative score your awesome.. 3rds were 26 and 25 so other than that you were close..
 
Judging animals off a few pictures is tough but if that bull goes 400 I'll be shocked, I just don't see it. one thing is for sure if it makes 400 a picture is not worth a thousand words.
 
who cares what the score is, he is a toad, and I would for sure let the air out of him if given a chance. Nice job to the hunter.
 
YES, TWO DIFFERANT BULLS ONE IS 408, AND THE OTHER BULL IS 360. TRUST ME I WAS THERE!!!!

It would make sense, since Multikills was saying the bull had 9" 7ths on both sides. The bull that was posted first doesnt have matching sevenths. The bull that I just posted now does. Im guessing thats the bull he meant.

I say we start taking some bets on whether it is a 408 Bull or not. I got $50 bucks that says neither of those bulls are 408.

I am not a scoring expert or anything like that, just my backseat internet scoring opinion and I would be happy to eat crow if I have too.

Someone posted pics. I made my own personal estimate of the score. I never said I was an expert...only you have claimed to be an expert...I have said time and time again that they its a great bull. I said I would even admit I was wrong if you posted pics showing this bull a bit better. Heck, if it'll make you feel any better, Ill just say that you are right and Im wrong. WOW i have been gone for 2 days fly fishing this post is funny all over an elk. the elk will go 400 plus. it is a smoking hot bull. multikill i have a muzzle loader tag for manti. will you take me and my 8 kids with you LOL see ya on monday we smoke more big bull.
 
Nice bull. If he had two devil tines I would say it was the bull from that post of the sheds we could never get a score of.

Congrats to the hunter, I would be soooooo happy with a bull like that.

People get so hung up on score and it really doesnt matter. But I for one dont believe this bull is 408, sorry.

It is still a great bull, but I can't see that score.
It is not anything that most people here would pass up but just can't see 400 in any of the pictures. Sorry!!!

Much better pick, but I'm going with the majority on this one. I'm still not seeing it.

It's possible though.

Pics of elk are always tough! Until you get a chance to see them in person it's pretty easy to make a little bull look big and a big bull look small.....deer are a lot harder to fake out in pics than elk.

I'm not speaking from experience or anything:)
 
Why would anybody cry about a bull that doesn't look like it would score like it's supposed to? I must be out of the loop, this whole thing is odd.
 
its good to come back from the muzzle loader elk hunt and see that everyone likes this bull and would shoot it. Todd who shot this bull would only shoot a bull this year that would score close to or above 400. he has had a bull tag the last 3 years and has killed nice bulls but wanted one bigger this year. the measurement are posted on post 57 by one of the guides who was there. Its cool if you don't see it and its cool that we all had a good time on this post. i have seen the bull and it has been measured 2 times 1 time by Guy Mills and another time by someone in American fork. they were 2 inches off from each other. the 2 scores were 408 and 406 i do not know exactly what deduction will happen but i believe they were under 10 inches. i have a feeling that if this was your bull that you paid for and you shot and it was sitting your truck in your drive way, and someone out of the blue pulls up and takes picture with a cell phone and post them on monster muleys and everyone saying its not 400 but a good bull and you new whAt the measurements were. you would defend it to your dieing day. good luck
 
There has been numerous post on here about how certain people are glad this isn't a Mossback bull. If this hunter has had a tag three years in a role, he isn't your average hunter who has waited his whole life to draw a tag. It is a great bull, and I am sure Todd is a great guy, But what is the differance in this hunt compared to one of Doyles?
