Well it went like this. My 06 muzzy elk hunt started out Sat. am glassing the mountain sides looking for an area to backpack to for my elk hunt. I spotted some elk heading up into a bedding area so I watched then headed to the hillside. Found a spot to set up camp over the other side of the hill. I found a few spots to set up for the evening hunt. Long story shot I put myself between the bedding area and feeding are and had the small heard work past me Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. The head bull was a nice 6x6 with a broken point on his right side. He had 7 cows and 2 spikes with him. Now Thursday came and I had 4 guys walk up to me around 10:00am and ask how things are going. We talked they said they would head over to the next drainage. At 3:30 I see 4 orange covered men walk out of the bedding are that the elk I had been watching for 4 days had been using. They walk down to me and I said I thought you said you would go to the next drainage. They said we heard a bull in there and we went in after him and bumped him out over the top along with some cows. But did not get a shot. They told me that was hunting and we had a few other words and they left. I spent the next 2 days in the rain hopeing the elk would return. I saw nothing and headed home on Sat. I think they call that public land hunting. On Tuesday I had the bull at 207 yards and all I could see was his head, neck and about 4 inches of his back. I thought that with 4 more days of hunting I would get a better shot. On Wed. I had him at 50 yards after dark again not a good shot still had 3 days to hunt. Then Thursday came. I will try again in a few years

Thanks for sharing. Sounds like you had a good hunt in terms of seeing the animals. I appreciate your holding out and not taking a marginal shot.

My question would be whether or not you told these guys what you were on to and what your plan was??? If you did then they should have respected that and followed through by going to the next drainage. If you didn't tell them what was going on then they were just hunting. I will say that if they knew what was going on then that is pretty low!

Welcome to Colo hunting. As I have said countless
times Colo Comm and the Higher ups of DOW
care NOT about wildlife or hunter satisfaction
but MONEY MONEY MONEY. As always I am embarrased
to be a sportsman in Colo. Roy in Montrose

Roy, if you think CO is bad try Utah. Utah may have some big ole Elk but getting your hands on a tag is purty tough. I'll trade you Utah's elk herd for CO deer herd.

Mike
