Warm weather hurt Idaho?

Hey guys, love the info and pics. With only a few years of elk hunting under my belt, and being from the mid west, I was wondering. It is to warm up in Idaho For the first week of Oct.
How much will this effect hunting. It isn't to high there,5200 to 6300 ft. so, is it better to just stay on to of ridges, or should I be going down to get on wallows? Any info will be much appreciated.

Good luck to all

the beginning of Oct it's usually 50's to low 70's during the day depending on where you are. Most of the elk I find usually hang out on the ridges but without knowing where you are hunting I don't know how much help that info will be.

They typically hang out around the mid to upper part of the ridges early but as it gets light they move into the timber. The unit I hunt is loaded with elk even though we always hunt deer. (It's a draw unit for elk). The first part of October is almost always sunny and warm during the day cool at night. Get high before daybreak and settle in where you can glass a lot of country. Good luck.

We were at 5500-6000' this weekend. The elk were rutting and in a big herd. It seems that the rut is a little late this year, maybe due to hot and dry weather, which thankfully broke last week with lots of cold and rain/some snow in the mtns. One of the 6 pts still had velvet on his horns and the raghorn with him had just barely shed. The big bulls were pretty shiney, althought the herd bull had some velvet hanging. From what we have seen the elk just started herding up good about 10 days ago.

The weather is getting back to normal and this week will be in the 60's moving to the low 70's. Don't go off my elevation because were are scouting in a "low" unit anyway, but I think the rut will still be going strong the first week of Oct. Some talk of another storm moving in this weekend....keep your fingers crossed. If your going to the mountains, well they are pretty muddy right now with the low snow level last week. Bring your chains if your going high.

Good luck.
