Stolen Elk!!!!

Sent to me by a friend!

I can't believe there are people out there that do this....

FYI-

My buddy Rob Swikert arrowed this bull Saturday morning on West Mountain just south of Tamarack. After spending the day cleaning/quartering they ran out of daylight. When they got back up there Sunday morning someone had cut the antlers off the head!!!

Obviously, Rob would very much like to get his trophy back. Pass this email along to any of your archery buddies and maybe some fool will get caught bragging about his bull that he didn't really kill (I wouldn't want to be him). If someone has the antlers and is planning on selling them Rob will pay more, especially if he gets to buy them directly from the guy that cut the antlers off.

Pass this along....

Thanks,

Jason Hawkins

I sure hope your friend finds the rotten SOBs' , THERE'S NOTHING WORSE THAN A THIEF AND A LIER, 1 IN THE SAME! Sorry to hear the mis fortune....

This seems to be happening more and more these days, just can't understand the logic on taking or showing off a animal that you didn't harvest yourself. Just wondering why your friend didn't take the head or tongue with him in case of this kind of B.S.? Sorry to hear about this, beautiful bull, hope they find who did this. Take care Jeff

I truly hope you find the person(s) who stole the antlers. What do you call someone who steals someone elses accomplishments? I don't think there is a word harsh enough to call a person like that. I hope karma comes around and kicks this person(s) A$$.

Redside , I don't understand what you meant by asking why he didn't take the tongue, how would this have stopped the person from taking the antlers? Just curious...

NMHUNTNUTT1, Sorry about the confusion, when I was browsing through Desertflingers post I thought they cut the head off, not just the horns. Taking the tongue was a old trick my dad always taught me when you have to leave your elk, so in the event someone steals your elk you have proof its yours. This happend to a friend of mine years ago in Eastern Oregon. They killed a nice bull and were running out of daylight, so they quartered the elk and left it for the night. The next day they came back to get the bull and the head was gone. Well my friend remembered to cut the tongue out and take it with him that night, so to make a long story short they contacted the OSP and they went through all the camps and found a 6-point bull that matched the description of the bull that my friend shot. The guy ranted and raved that he killed the elk, until the OSP officer opened the bulls mouth and found half a tongue missing. The guy later confessed and was written a large ticket. Just something to think about when out in that situation.

Damned good info.
Keep it up. F these stinging
no good s o b s
I say, we slowly kill them one
by one, by one, by one, by one........

I pray he finds the culprits. There are hunters, and then there are A-Holes like the whoever did that. mtmuley

I will never understand jerks like this. What is the point of having a beautiful rack on the wall if you know you didn't earn it? 90% of the value of a trophy is the story you have that goes with the head. What is this A-munch going to tell people? "So there I was, belly crawling through prickly pair and pine needles, when suddenly I snuck up on someone else's fresh kill. I looked left, I looked right, and when I was sure no one was around, I reached out and grabbed the head and ran down the mountain like a coward." That's one for the grandkids.

Thanks redside. I'll actually use that if I ever have to leave an animal...Its pretty bad in this day and age where we have to use little tricks in that "just in case " manner, but thats a great trick....

We would scratch our initials into the hooves and backside of the anlers by the base and rub mud on it to cover it up.

Just a suggestion. Tell your friend to stash the head in the nastiest brush or group of trees the next time he kills a bull and has to leave the head overnight. fatrooster.

this looser is proably braggin it up to every one he knows on what a great hunter he is!! That is just bad carma!!

LAST EDITED ON Oct-04-06 AT 08:29PM (MST)[p]Alot of times a jack-ass crook like that will steal and stash and come back later for the goods when they think everything has quieted down.If they come back at all, did your buddy search a wide area around where the bull was at?: RIMROCK

That's bad. I've found several bulls and bucks shot and left to rot with the heads taken. Thats a felony.
