Wow what an awesome place. Saw some huge bulls!!! I shot at and missed a 370 plus bull. I decided to shoot the limb in front of him to deflect my arrow and leave him for the muzzle loader hunters! Saw some huge bulls the last week of archery season. I had the hunt of a lifetime! Good luck to the muzzleloader boys. email me and i'll let you know what tree i left him tied [email protected]

Sorry you didn't punch your tag...but that is an awesome place to hunt isn't it. I'm glad you had a good time. One of the references I called used a phrase to describe the Valle Vidal that I'll never forget. He called it an "elk farm" :)

It truly is a Once-In-A-Lifetime hunt.

Take care,

Grizzly

Brock,

Whew--I too didn't punch my tag at VV. Hunt was awesome and worth the 80+ miles we put on our feet in 16 days. We had 31 bulls of various sizes that we put eyes on inside of 100 yards. Some days we had so many bulls around it was difficult deciding which one to go after. Several times 30 seconds or 10 yards in distance determined success vs failure. Had several opportunities on cows, spikes and raghorns inside 15 yards. But with so many quality animals screaming back at you we passed.

The weather and wind was very tough some days. Winds were snapping green trees off in places. Guys hunting in burn areas said it sounded like a rifle hunt due to timber blowing down.

Almost every bull seen had cows with them where we hunted. Cow eyes killed us many times. Even the raggies would have 1 or 2.

Anyone have a photo of the bull taken by the DIY guys from Ohio? They roughed it at 383 gross. 55 inch beam on one side and 50 inch spread. Incredible mass. Other side had the mass but was shorter.

Grizzly--thanks for the tips. We chased a hog back in there. Bull was leaving 8 foot rubs on some alders. He is a pig. Great tops on the bulls this year with all the rain. Good luck in 16A.

I812,

Was the 383" bull from the VV? If so that is way huge for that area. It sounds like you were living in a Primos Truth DVD for a week. Sure is fun when they're screaming like that though...even if you don't punch your tag. I haven't found any other hunting that compares to elk hunting when they're bugling.

I'm glad some of my info was good for you. Post a pic of the Ohio bull if you get one.

12 days to go for me before I leave for 16A!!! I can't wait. I feel like a little kid two weeks before Christmas.

Yes it was taken in VV by a young man who's father hunted VV a few years back. They spiked in 5 miles and killed it the first week as it fed into them. Nice people and the young man will have a hard time topping it. Dad was hillarious telling the story of getting the bull out.

I812,

What area did they spike into? (In case I draw again...:) )
