Bess, this quad ordeal has gotten out of hand. I'am so friggin pissed with those lazy slobs.
Whenever the USFS puts up a "No offroad vehicle sign" its gone in a day or two.
I was in one of my favorite canyons Friday (steep mofo) and low and behold I run into a parked quad out on this point! I thought about you and giving it a high altitude tune up but, I didn't know where the owner of this 800cc monster was. I only wished I would have seen him walk away from the damn thing. Yes, with the full moon it would have an easy decision to minimize this contraption from a 800cc pisscutter to an bucket of bolts dink chili bike. SICK OF QUADS OFFROAD...
 
Bess, The best thing that you could do is take some posts and a couple bags of cement and "close the trail" on your own. I took a forest service guy up to the access trail to the canyons where I hunt and showed him the problem he then helped me put the posts in and it has saved the canyons that I hunt in. It takes a little work but it is definately worth it. Good luck.

I need tune-up pictures! I need to see a hole in a piston! I needed to do one on my elk hunt but I need a blow by blow pictorial cuz i do not know how to do them?

Last year was a 2 wheel track through some yellow grass, baby cedars, and sagebrush. This year was a dusty beaten down wheeler trail. The cedars were dead, no yellow grass, and the sage brush was kindling. But no one does this! I think the martians are to blame. No more crop circles, just dusty squiggly lines through the mountains. The map says closed, but I guess it does not apply to everyone.

Will some of the academia types like Tfinal, Dman, Huntindude and others correct me if I'am wrong, please. The new protocol of the USFS is to ONLY post the well used roads if its OK to ride a quad on. The other trails or roads are NOT okay to ride on but are NOT posted. How ridiculous is that? Within a day of two the signs are either shot or torn down by some friggin scrot, and then the law breakers (yea, the lazy SOB who rides his quad off road) has an excuse that they didn't see any signs.

I have no problem using a quad to retrieve his game but this bullchit of getting into some hell hole to hunt has got to stop!! Time for a tuneup.

Give me a chute plane scouting anyday over some lazy SOB shooting or scouting off his quad. Blast away at me.

Much more is the fact that over 10,000+ people on the interweb know exactly what a "tune up" is.

I must say, I see quads where I least expect to see them. The only thing that tops them are cows. The bovine kind.

I can hear the lowlife now trying to tell their kids!! As they hang their head low. We use to hunt here on our Four Wheelers!! When it is gone. Then what? The elk not only need but they deserve the respect. I agree with Bobcat.

We had guys opening morning driving chained vehicles in closed road areas in 4 inches of snow and 10 inches of mud - what a mess they made! They skirt the gates/bucknpole fencing and drive right into what is to be a closed area! I was down in a bowl and never saw the vehicle, but when I came out that afternoon they had been all over hell. I woulda tuned up some heads had I seen em!

Then get this... why the FUG would the forest circus have a closed road with official gate that everyone and their dog's dog knows is not locked at all??? they just lift the keeper box and swing it open! Why can't us UTARDs get with the program and understand that less roads and staying out of closed road areas with our vehicles will mean better elk hunting?

I'm frustrated with all the roads we have in Utah that can't get or stay CLOSED. Along with the seeming lack of respect for closed areas. I like wheelers and 4x's and they have many purposes, but when it comes to hunting more lazy azzes need to get out and WALK!!! ... my $0.02...
 
I was sitting watching a small group of deer feeding out into the open off of the hill side while glassing for monster muleys. All of a sudden their heads all went up and they were looking one direction. Then they started milling around and slowly made their way back up into the timber and brush.

Then I heard what they heard and then saw what they heard. It was a "bow hunter" slowly driving down the middle of the valley on a quad. He drove slowly on by looking both ways up and down the terrain.... apparently not seeing me on the opposite hillside.

As he disappeared around a bend, the deer slowly fed their way back out, undisturbed.

Its amazing what you see when you sit still and not be the one moving.

I don't own a quad.

Man Bobcat, Whats the difference you driven around in your Mini Van on the same roads the ATV guys are drivin on. Get away from the roads and you might not have the problems your havin. eh!!!
 
Hey there dogwood, bobcat's not talking about the guys on the road. He's talking about the guys riding those SOB's off the road, making their own trails and going past and around the posts and signs in the road. I had the same damn problem on my bowhunt. Walk back in several miles only to find some fat slob on his motor scooter riding right up between me and the elk. By the looks of him he wouldn't have made it 10 yards off the road without that damn bike. They need to shut down the ATV use during hunting season, at the very least shut down the trails that go right down the middle of draws. That Great Western Trail is a joke. Better name it the Great Western Motocross race.

Bobcat..do you think Gold Tip arrow with a Wacem broadhead would be a good tool for a tuneup?

I have never given any of them a "high altitude tuneup" as you put it, but I have helped them out by filling a few tanks with some homegrown heat (the yellow variety). I have no respect for the bastages, I certainly agree they can be one of the biggest let downs on a hunt that you have worked your ass off on. Those guys are about the same rank as high fence hunters in my book.

KITTY sorry I'm kinda fired up tonight been chasing ducks with the 12 year old. It's been kinda nice actually. Not much worry about what the teal you just shot will score or if SFW will go to the RAC's and fight against the trophy mallard I wish to kill, can it have three full tail curls or just two??

Will this trophy greenhead be killed during the duck rut or will I have to opt for the late season trophy mallard tag??

safety tip to help you not take a blunt or slug when you perform a tune up. Simply place a GPS on the seat of SCUMBAG ATV USER'S SEAT and snap a pic with your cell phone. You can either send it to me and I will take care of it or send it to the local patrolling Conserevation Officer for the unit. Either way it's indisputible and will keep you from dancing from slugs or experiencing a sharp pain between your shoulder blades from a blunt.

The POLARIS is a nice bike but pretty maintenance intensive
If you wish to ride instead of wrench I would definately go with a Japanese bike.

If ya go with the HONDA I am mostly sure that BESSY would be lost trying to find the head not to mention the piston or plug.
