Just got off the phone with my buddies from ID, their potato harvest is way behind schedule and they wont be able to go on elk hunting. So unless I go by myself or find another group hunting in 17 Im screwed, anyone have a good recipe for tag and plane ticket soup?

Is it out of the question to take a "loner" trip?
I've done it before and enjoyed it. May be tough if you tag a bull but the sweeter it is when they look at your monster!

I know I'd go. More than likely when you get set up you will see other hunters around anyways. You just wont have an ear to bend while you are eating and sleeping...

Im working on that, they have all the camping gear, etc, so if I can line up a 4x4 Im gonna go, I rented a sat. phone so if something happens I can call for help.

I'd go if I were you...and since they arent going they have no need for the gear...borrow theirs...they should understand...that way if by chance they do get away its already set up...everybody wins.

I went solo on my Arizona elk hunt this year.
You will miss the company of your friends, but when the stalk is on or you have a bull in your sights, the adrenaline will erase all thoughts of lonliness!
Go!
Make it happen.

Everybody's right so far. You gotta go, man! Do whatever it takes, but get on that plane and get into those hills!

Actually, I can't count the number of times I've been hunting with friends and wished I were alone for all their racket. Besides, there's always moments in a group hunt where you want to hunt a certain draw or a certain canyon and you're overruled by your buddies.

GO, MAN, GO!

Heck I may even have a cabin lined up already in my unit. This will be my third time in the area, so Im framilier with it, plus Ive packed out 3 elk so I KNOW all about getting those bad boys back to camp. As soon as I can arrange transportation Im there.
