where are you looking to hunt? out of pomeroy?
there are lots of elk, but from what i've heard from folks in town there, it's a pumpkin parade
it's one of 2 times in the year that the pioneer motel has no vacancies
I was up there this weekend out of Dayton looking around as I was lucky enough to get a branched-antler bull permit for the Watershed. There were a bunch of camps aleady setup and many more were on the way... I have no idea how the other units outside of the Watershed are, it sounds like the hills get loaded with other hunters.
the insane amount of people and VERY limited access in most areas make for a tough hunt. i dont know how the fire effected things this summer but im sure it didn't help much. it's a lot of work/time/money/frustration for spike IMHO.
