Hi my name is Ralph Greene I am the owner and head guide of www.saltriverrangeoutfitters.com. So being a guide I do not get a chance to hunt for my self much that is why I put in for a park tag that has a long season after my all of my hunts are over and finally drew on this my first in six years of applying. (Yes)
Hear is a short story about my bull that I shot this year. On Oct 20 the season opened and I got to Jackson on the 19th to do a little scouting. And wow did I every see a big bull he was a 9 x7 with a 2 foot forked drop tine and maybe a very hi 300?s I watched him thru me swarovski spotting scope for hours chasing his 50 to 60 cows around hoping he would cross the river in the morning so I could he a shot at him. Well as night fell I drove back to Jackson hole to sleep witch was in my 99 vw jetta not recommended and not comfortable at all and I am 5 foot 8. Well Oct 20 (yes) Finley 45 min walk in the dark to ware I saw the monster the day before as I got closer to the river I could hear bull screaming all over. If you are warding the elk must be on my side of the river to be legal and let me tell you that is not were the monster bull was (NO). But as it got more daylight there was a nice 6x6 320 to 330 bull on my side that I had to pass on because it was nothing or huge for me. Because I have already shot a 320 bull a few years back. So as he walked back a cross the river in my head I was thinking did just mess up? But I have till the Dec 3 to hunt. So The big bull was no wear to be found on this day. So back to the car for another restless cold snowy night. Oct 21 I only can hunt the morning becase I have elk hunters that start on 22. So with all hope of ever kill the drop tine bull I drove up the hi-way looking for elk tracks in the new snow and found some tracks that heeded for the refuge so I took a gamble and parked the car a mile up the road at a parking lot I had 40 min before legal shooting time and a mile or two to go. So being in good shape from all of the hi county mule deer and bow elk hunting that I have been doing for the past month and a half. I empted all non essential stuff out of my pack and jogged down the hi-way to the elk tracks and up the seep hill and began to glass and off in the distance I could just make out 4 bulls walking in a line towards the refuge still not legal to shot had to be 7:06 it was 6:55 and the elk were walking away from me. So I had to make a big loop to get closer for a shot if one was big a enough so ran as fast as I could a ? mile south to wear they wear going and walked up a bank to glass and I could see that the first bull was infect a shooter bull I looked at my watch and it was 7:16 grabbed my range finder it was 454 yards. So I sat on my butt and put the still walking bull in my X hair?s but I still was breathing to hard from the run I did and not felling conferrable with the shot I quality pulled my pack of and laid my gun down on it for a better shot. So in all the commotion the other bulls spotted me and stopped but the big bull still was walking so I whistled as loud as I could and the bull stopped perfectly broadside I put my 7mm stw cross hairs on his backbone and touched the trigger and down he went. I so existed I jumped up an yield Yessss!!!!!!!!!!
All the years of anticipation were Finley over and what did I kill how big was he all of that went thru my mind as I gathered all my stuff and stared my walk but as a hunter you know when you see a big animal that you will shoot a switch in your brain flicks and so dose the trigger regardless of his score!!! So for all you that care for me it is not the score it is what feels right in your heart. By the way he is a 10x7 not real long points but holey mass 53 and 50 inch main beams but he dose score good gross green 351.I could not have done the job with out my gun 7mm stw 140 grain Winchester supreme ballistic tip 0 at 300 yards swarovski binos.

Thanks for reading my story as you well know now I am not a pro writer but I am a hunter so sorry for the penmanship. My web site is www.saltriverrangeoutfitters.com

Man I love the country that you run in. I have told my wife that we need to move there and when I was a directv installer during the fall I loved driving up that drainage and seeing all of the animals. Nice Bull also

Well the Boy Scouts will have one less set of elk sheds to hold up at the auction next spring! Nice bull, might as well gettum before the wolves do.

Great looking Bull Ralph, lots of character. You're a man after my own heart, sleeping in your car just to Elk hunt! I hope to see that Bull if I draw the archery tag next Spring and hunt with you in the Fall.
