Nevada resident question

Well, it looks like I'm moving to Reno in the Fall (not completely by choice - my fiance and a teaching job and such). I live in Oregon where I can pretty much bow hunt mulies at will and I don't know a lot about NV. I've read on this site were guys are talking about not being able to draw tags for 2-3 years(?!?). Is that true? Or is that just for rifle tags or mid-to-high-quality units? If I move to Nevada will I be able to draw a deer bow tag every year? And if I do are the units availble really poor and overcrowded? This year I'm locked in in Oregon so I'm not worried about it until the following year when I'll be a NV res. But trust me, this is a HUGE concern to me :). I've looked at the Nevada site but I can't make hears-or-tails of it all. I know it's all LE, but the units seem to have awful low tag #'s. And what about elk? How long will I have to wait to hunt elk with a bow in Nevada as a resident? Any help would greatly help ease my @#&%ing anxiety over all this.

If you not too picky you can certainly hunt deer / antelope with a bow every year(at least until you take a goat - then 5 yr wait). Pretty tough to say any of the hunts are overcrowded in NV if you get off the roads. Take a look at the bonus point tallies for residents on the NDOW website and you can figure out what areas take a while to draw and which ones don't. Plan on waiting forever for a bull elk tag regardless of what weapon you choose.

Steelie, I think all of your questions can be answered on the Nevada hunt website. Look at draw odds and you will see that many areas can be drawn easily, for mule deer anyways. Elk is a different story. Also, I sent you a PM. fatrooster.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-27-07 AT 09:52PM (MST)[p]i am a nevada bow hunter and yes you can get a bow tag every year for the general area, 101-108. there are a lot of bow hunters in this area but there is a hell of a lot of deer! the good trophy areas are still pretty reasonable to draw every year or every other year and since there are limited quotas, there is not a lot of pressure and you can find your hunny holes away from anyone if you want. last year i hunted three days in a remote area before i got my deer having never seen another hunter. nevada has got some good hunting and if you put in a little effort you can enjoy it

Right on. Thank you very much for the input. I was having all kinds of nightmare scenarios in my head. Actually, I can't wait to get out and start poking around. That's good to know about the antelope. I'll be 150 years old before I draw a decent tag in Oregon. BTW, is there as much huntable roadless areas in Nevada as it looks like on a map? Anyway, thanks again!
