Has anyone every hunted South Africa with Tall Grass Safaris or know someone who has? Would you recommend them? Thank you.

I don't know about Tall Grass but have been doing extensive research on an African Safari and sent my deposit last week. Send me a PM and I can tell you what I know if you have an interest.

I have hunted in SA for around 9 total weeks so let me know what area they are proposing you hunt in and I might be able to shed a little light on things. It sounds like the eastern cape. If so I have a bunch of really good friends in that area and I can find out a little more about them.

Inthehunt - This will be my first time to Africa. A friend met the PH at their booth at the Bob Gurding Outdoor Show in Albuquerque. My friend has hunted Africa once before several years ago. He is persuing most of the details of the trip. It seem to be going very fast. We are probably going to hunt in mid June. It is a 7 day hunt, 6 trophies, Kudu, Impala, Warthog, Blesbuck, Springbuck, Black Wildebeest ($2995). They have five hunting locations, Pretoria, Mpumalanga, Waterberg, Eastern Free State, and Eastern Cape. Their web-site is at: http://www.tallgrasssafaris.com/ It appears that they may be a new company estabilished in 2008. I would grealy apprieciate your help.

Personally, I would be scared to death of that price and what you are really getting. I only know of a couple of reputable outfits in So. Africa that is not pen hunting (small acreage). Are you looking for a good deal? Good hunt? What are your goals? I will send you a PM.

WOW! the price seems out of the norm by enough I would wonder. Their site looks good and their areas are good. From my days over there, the free state is a windy, cold desolate area, avoid! Here is what I caution to anybody going to SA. The really reputable outfitters there call them bed and breakfast ph's. PH's who do not have their own areas. Instead roam and buy up last minute game on ranches that they do not own or know that well. Can it work out? Sure, absolutley but often it doenst, or you have a sub-par time. I'm into the experiance and the laughs in camp! Not collecting, so I may be a little skewed in my thinking. I would ask: How many areas are we hunting? How large of an area are we hunting, total per ranch NOT how many total acres they have an opportunity to hunt because they will just add up all their areas and say "guys! you get to hunt over 100,00 acres!!" What's the trophy possibility? Not that it matters but make sure they didnt set you up with a cull type hunt. And make sure they put in WRITING what is not included in the hunt price and have them sign it!! call me if you have any questions. 406 539-0890 ryan. hope this helps a little??
