Highest Scoring Typical Portion of a Rack

Does anyone know what the highest scoring typical portion of any rack is? I have heard tales of some nontypicals whose typical part of the rack outscores the Burris buck. Anyone know of any of these?

I believe there's more than one. Kingsoutdoorworld.com claims that the "bigfoot buck" has a larger main frame.

There's at least one I know about. It's known as the Mundy buck from New Mexico. It was taken in 1962. It's net nontypical score is 288-6/8, and it has 51-3/8" of abnormal points, meaning its net typical frame is 237-3/8.
The Burris buck nets 226-4/8 Typical. It has 2-5/8" of abnormal points which means its typical frame is 229-1/8.
This information is from the B&C book "Records of North American Elk and Mule Deer" last published in 1996. Current owner of the Mundy buck is a Forum member here and he has posted pictures of the buck in the past. With an outside spread of 49-2/8, I think it's the most impressive buck of all time.

WoW! However, I love straight typical bucks, like the one just posted that scores around 210 net typical. Still an unbelievable buck and a career ender for sure!

Why would that be a career ender? Broder was still talking about taking a bigger nontypical well into the twilight years of his life. Just give's ya goal to aim for!

There are more world record typical frames on nontypicals than you would realize. A few come to mind off hand. Obviously the Maestes a.k.a. "Mundy" buck. The Dennis Wintch buck a.k.a. "Bigfoot" buck. There are several others from Colorado that I know of like the 300 plus James Austill buck owned by Cabelas and the Earl Markley buck owned by that dude in Idaho. The Milton Hunt buck from Utah is another with the same world record typ/300 incher classification.

Some of these bucks will book both ways. Giant enough typical frames that even with the non typ deductions they will still book as a typical and enough nontyp stuff that the score in the 240-260 class. These are the real "World Class" bucks.

BTW-That Milton Hunt buck is the most awesome trophy to come out of that state and blows away that stag that is entered as the state record.

BCBOY- Broder must have been smokin' Canadian dope to think he would ever see, let alone kill another buck that size. LOL

BS,

I think on a previous post I read that the hunt buck has a broken skull plate, reason it's never been entered. Do you know if that is true? What a shame if it is. That is the most impressive set of antlers of all time>

"I started hunting in the year 1909 and have never missed a season since; I am now 72 and in fair health and who can tell, I may beat my old 1926 record!" - Ed Broder
It wasn't a career ender for him to take the 355 2/8 World Record.

Affirmative ghostrider. Skull plate is broken. The only thing that changes is a little bit of ink in a book.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWESOME BUCK!

I have to say that they should allow the ole Milton's buck to be entered without an inside spread. The slug nets over 300 true inches, so take off the 25" of inside and it still goes in as a 280"++ buck. I don't care much for the "record" books anyway. I'd love to shoot one 100" smaller!

Got any pics of the Miltons buck?

The Mudey Buck has a gross typical frame of 246"
It is so big it looks unreal, but it is real!!!

M....J,

go look at a previous post for the Hunt buck- 5 pages back in mule deer.

Hunt Buck--Utah

Maniac,
Are you SURE its real? I mean, it looks big in the pictures but that could be enhanced.

Just kidding with you, dont blow a gasket, its a HUGE deer.

There's a buck taken here in British Columbia and is in the Trophy Deer of British Columbia by Rick.

I forget the score off the top of my mind but I ll go find it and post the score .... but its listed as one of the greatest typical mainframes ever before non-typical deductions.

BC Boy might know which one I'm talking about. Though not sure if the mainframe would beat the Burris buck though.

BCBucks,
I know exactly which buck your talking about. That would be the Osborne Buck. Typical frame grosses 233 3/8 and nets 220 2/8. Not quite as big as the Burris Buck buck but darn close. The final NT score is 245. It was owned by Don Schaufler when Rick's book was written. I don't know if he still owns it. If I had a scanner I'd scan the pic from the book. It is one incredible buck. My dream buck for sure!
Did you see the article in the new Big Buck Mag of the BC Book #1 typical? It scores 219 2/8 gross and nets 204 7/8. If it didn't have one extra it would have netted 212 7/8. Not too shabby.

Thats the buck I'm talking about. Still impressive !!

The winter edition of Big Buck is out ?? I don't have the subscription anymore.... better go buy it.

Not only do I know of that new number one buck in BC ... but I held the antlers and had several pictures of myself taken with the buck before they were mounted at the BC Big Game awards banquet a couple yrs ago. Its an awsome buck ... and Rick has I think the number 2 typical rack in his house for storage .... also taken from the same area which says something about the genes of those bucks .... not super heavy but they sure have the length !!

Best way to find and shoot one of those big bucks is with a "Chute Plane" !!

BCBucks,
What ya waitin' for? Post up those pics of you holding that monster. I'd love to see 'em. Is that buck the one I heard about on display at the Sporting Goods store in the Puddle? I've been meaning to drop in and see it first hand but I haven't yet.

Anyone know what the gross score of the Burris buck is. I know it has a 2 5/8 deduction for the abnormal point but what are the side to side deductions? I would imagine that in gross score the Osborne Buck would be close to the same.

I'll have to get the pictures scanned. (I have no scanner and then I can e-mail it to you as I don't know how to post pictures on here).

Yes - the buck is now mounted and on display at the sporting goods shop in Willie's Water Hole. Awsome buck !
