Leaving tomorrow on the wife's cow hunt. Has anybody been up there lately. Wondering if the elk have started to migrate to the lower area's.

Thanks in advance

I'll second that. Trey helped me out on a bull hunt this year. He suggested an area and, sure enough, that evening I got my 4x4.Considering the lousy weather and the fact that I lost all of my scouting time to mechanical problems on my Jeep and the Dodge I felt great getting him. THANKS AGAIN TREY!!! I ENJOYED MEETING YOU THERE !

We got back yesterday from the hunt. We went 2 for 2. Saw tons of elk everyday. The wife made her first elk kill. She made a nice 200 hundred yard shot. She's now harvested 2 bucks and a cow elk. If I don't watch out she's going to catch up to me. My brother killed a cow yesterday morning out of a herd of about 100. It was a great hunt.

Congrats! I bet you saw some nice bulls everyday also. I didn't think you would have any problem filling those tags. Was there any snow on the ground?

outta..

outta,
Very little snow on the ground...real dry. We did see a few bulls. We saw a couple descent 6x6's and quite a few raghorns. It's fun looking at all those animals. We also saw a herd of 10 deer with 2 bucks. One buck was a good 4x4.

vinihunt,

We camped on forest road 83 just a little below Esquibel canyon.

No Bull this year! Got into elk every day though. I really blew it. Took a shot and missed. Nice 5 point bull. We took two deer out of three tags. Mine was a little 2x3 that looks good in his new white paper packaging. My buddy also shot a little bit better 2x3. We were seeing alot of does and smaller bucks. I think we camped too high up. We were up by the Cruces. I have heard good things about that red hill.

Wapitidave, congrats. How did you do in the Gila? Grizlyhunter and I shot 2 6x6's (16A). Haven't seen anything from you on that hunt. Shootwice

Shootwice,

I did OK. I also took a young 6x6. He scored around 300. I did take pictures on my 35mm camera but unfortanately I didn't realize the shutter was not opening so I don't have any pictures of him in the field. Bummer!!! Shot him the 1st morning in Water Canyon off Forest road 180. Seen 3 bulls in there that morning. One of the bulls was bigger then the one I took but he did not give me the shot I was waiting for. They weren't making much noise at all. I actually saw the bull I took the day before in there with 5 cows. I thought he was a little bigger then he was.
I had to hire a local from Reserve to come in and get him out with his horses due to the roughness of the canyon. The hunt was good but unfortunately my dad was not able to go with me (health issues)so it wasn't quite as nice as it could of been. Even though it was extremely green everywhere in there I can't help to think that the antler growth was affected due to the drought in the early part of the year. I'm glad you guys were also succesful.
