Read thru and highlighted the '07 Wyo. proc last night.

It seems to be basically the same as last year with fee structure, 'Tenative' dates ect.

The start of a new year for applications and I'm still chasing elk in my home state....

Year round job for sure!

DO PEOPLE READ IT???

OR JUST HUNTNFOOL???

THE ONLY bobcat WAITING FOR THE 2007 UTAH BIBLE!!! :D :D :D

Yeah, I got it and read it just for giggles. I guess now that the non-res. is getting socked in the basket with a point system, and you really want to send Wyo a bunch of money AND hunt, and you don't care where, then the license with pt. option is for you! At least with deer and lopes, one could take a shot at a hard draw. If UN, then retain the pt. plus get a license for an easier 2nd choice.
Now if you can figure how to do that with Elk, you're getting pretty good at it!

I like the way you can buy a point up until September. we wouldn't want anyone left out of the point pool, what a joke. I'll play the game until I draw then I'm out, without max points it would be cheaper to buy a landowner tag somewhere else than to draw another quality tag.

Joke, fer sure!
What boggles my brain cell is why anyone would put up to $468 into a system to come out and shoot one of those cute little lopey-dopeys. I grit my teeth forkin' over $31 for a tag. But I do it, so....
If they weren't so tasty and tender I guess I probably wouldn't.
Looks like a fee hike is on the books for 2008, boys! Another rubber-stamper passed on to poor little ol' me and you.

Rump...

A guy has to play the cards delt to him.....

Not much of a choice....

Ya got any info on 19 or 64 or 98 for elk?

Robb

Yeah, PD, facts of life...
I'm of the belief, however, the State ought not be so proud of their Golden Boy.
Never hunted those areas--sorry.
Worked in 19 two summers ago--maybe our Casper guys got some insight on it. What with the fire there this year, let's see if the Elk come down into the Garden Creek Loop south of Casper to be hand fed for a spell like the deer herd and degenerate into a non-typical mecca for all to pet where they can't be hunted!!!

Robb, I drew 19 last year as a non res. If you care to talk offline, I'll give you my opinion. It has it's pro's and con's just like any other unit. It's a small unit in terms of elk habitat, and one guy owns a bunch of it. I bowhunted the public, and shot a respectable 6x6.

For what it's worth, this year I will be putting in for a different unit.

LAST EDITED ON Dec-08-06 AT 03:50AM (MST)[p]Thanks Rump.... most probably the Nov 1 hunt would be private ground problems...

Grasshopper... I'll toss ya a PM... thanks.

Robb

Sorry for the edit... but DonV have you been able to find the 'actual' non-res. number of guys with the 1 pt. on elk?
I've search... but can't find that number of 1 pt elk non-res.

Thanks

Robb

LAST EDITED ON Dec-08-06 AT 05:40AM (MST)[p]Robb,
I think the #s you are looking for are:

Going into 2007 Draw:
22,068 NR have 1 point ELK
16,251 NR have 1 point DEER
12,862 NR have 1 point ANTELOPE

"Whatever you are, be a good one."
- Abraham Lincoln

Let's see here, that's 22,068 times 50 equals....
Good job, Gamey & Fishey!
Over a million bucks on Elk alone, possibly not a shot fired!
(I dunno, anyone ever draw a 2nd for NR Elk?)
You can throw yourselves a helluva Christmas bash with that change in your bottomless pockets!

QUESTION: THE APPLICATION HAS CHANGED....IF YOU JUST WANTED TO BUY A POINT DURING THE POINT DRAW PERIOD (JULY1-SEPT30) WHERE IS THE APPLICATION FOR THAT ??? OR DOES THE F & G DEPT. SEND YOU A SEPERATE POINT APPLICATION LATER. OR DO YOU HAVE TO SEND ALL THE $$$ IN, GET THE POINT....AND THEN A REFUND ??? THANKS FOR YOUR HELP. YD.

From what I can read it will be a seprate application or really buying period. WF&G doesn't want the point's only stuff to deal with until after the NR license drawings. By July apparently we may be able to "purchase" our points "online". If you want to try for a license and get a point if you do not draw then you will have to get the app in on time with the $$$$and see what happens. IMHO it will take a couple more years to determine if having WY points is of much value.

22,068 NR have 1 point ELK

Ok, now how many total tags will these people be able to fight for?

Damn thats alot of people with a PP.

Don

I keep bugging my house and senate rep's to introduce legislation that would eliminate the non resident yearly fishing license. If they went to daily licenses only, they could increase revenue further and discourage a certain portion of folks from coming in. Some of you would have even more fodder to piss and moan about. Hehehe...

YD!
When they first sprang this awful offal on the public 'round beginning of Sept., their set up was a one page form available on the WG&F website that a person was to print off, fill out and send in with his/her money. No clue yet if they'll be distributing paper to applicants from now on.

T-BB, NOBODY IS PISSIN & MOANING...I LIKE WYOMINGS SYSTEM/POINTS AND ALL. I PAID $893.00 FOR AN ELK TAG/ PLUS POINTS AND I'M GOOD WITH THAT. MY MOOSE TAG WILL BE 1213 BUCKS PLUS POINTS AND THATS FINE TOO. IF YOU EVER GO ON A SHEEP HUNT WITH AN OUTFITTER EVERY THING WILL SEEM CHEAP AFTER THAT. ITS ALL RELATIVE TO AVAILABLE FUNDS. YD.

Geez Triple.... that aint like you to post something like that.... but I'm sure we all have barked out once or twice.. ha

YD has it fairly summed up correctly.. it is all relative ... ya got your hunting acct. $$ and do what ya can with it....

With Wyo., Az., and Utah in January more or less... and N.Mex Oryx the first of Feb.... I maybe 'tight' come Colo., Nv., N.Mex and Montana.... fo rsure if I hit a tag or two in the first 3-4 states from Jan. applications..

Thanks for those pref point numbers MNH....reads like about 1 elk tag for each 1 point person... throwing in cow, bull non-res. allocation....

Robb

PD, just trying to stir the pot a little bit. Went on my first guided elk hunt this year. Wrote the check and just closed my eyes when I handed it over to the outfitter. The cost is all relative to whatever yer priorities are...

You guys should be pissing and moaning. Let me ask all of you this; at the current rate of price increases how many of you will be priced out of nonresident hunting before the end of the decade? any of you have children? what will they do? you going to afford to take them hunting anywher when they get older? this is a shame and it will be the downfall of hunting all together. Hunters will hang it up from cost, hunting numbers will drop and the Anti's will beat the rest of you hunters down.
Just picture the UK type of hunting here. The rate that it is happening is alarming. States charging bullshit prices for tags that you have little to no chance of drawing (like AZ and NV) while the fat cats buy a tag every year. All because residents sit back and think it is fine to make someone else pay for thier share of managment and habitat. You guys who think this is great are cutting your own throats.

SCHMALTS, TRUER WORDS WERE NEVER SPOKEN. HALF THE HUNTERS I KNOW HAVE ALREADY BAILED OUT OF HUNTING, AND REKINDLED OTHER OLD HOBBIES. SOME NOW JUST GO ON A HUNT EVERY 2-3 YEARS, WHERE THEY USED TO GO OUT OF STATE TO HUNT TWICE A YEAR. I'VE GOT POINTS STACKED IN SEVEN STATES,7 DIFFERENT ANIMALS... THIS WILL SUPPORT MY HUNTING ANOTHER 20 YEARS...THEN I THINK IT WILL BE OVER FOR ME TOO. I DONT THINK MANY HUNTERS, F & G PEOPLE, SEE THE BIG PICTURE. HUNTEM WHILE YOU CAN, WE STILL NEED TO KICK BUTT ON THE ANTI HUNTER THOUGH. YD.

LAST EDITED ON Dec-10-06 AT 02:56PM (MST)[p]YD, i gave up on some states already. I am debating on hanging up AZ with 6 points for elk because i know its a very long shot. I gave up on Moose and sheep in WY. When i draw UT i will hang that up as well. I have Colorado, NM and MT left after that.
Too many guys think that guys like me dropping out is great because it betters odds for them. in reality it may, but as i bail, the lost revenue will be put onto them until they too are priced out. States like AZ and UT will raise prices huge amounts by the end of the decade. Look what it costs to stay in the game in WY.. and so many fools think they will actually draw a sheep tag. So many fools will think they will draw an elk tag in a premium area in AZ... Take a look at the points breakdown in UT, so many guys have no clue that if they are under 6 points for elk they will not see a chance at a bonus permit for 15-20 years yet. If UT starts doing what AZ does with the bogus license fee what will it cost to get that tag? If you have 6 points in UT right now that means 1531 NR guys are ahead of you, and if you have less than 6, forget it your dreaming at a bonus permit. Given the few non res tags given out a year your chances of ever getting to the point of getting a bonus permit in your lifetime is dim. these are the things that guys don't see when they apply. and also why it is robbery to charge that fee just to apply.

If
>UT starts doing what AZ
>does with the bogus license
>fee what will it cost
>to get that tag?

Funny you say that. UT WILL be getting in the NR gouging game starting in '08. It won't be as high as AZ or NV but you'll likely have to pay $50 or more to apply.

I bought a point last year and then read something in the proc about max points being two?? I'm not going to start applying for actual elk license until 2008. Just wondering if I should bother buying a 2nd point??
