I saw the thread on unit 31 and it got me thinking about my upcoming WY unit selection. Had been thinking of putting in for a unit 38 type 9 archery tag and was wondering the same thing. The draw odds are around 15% and I was wondering if this area has some remote places for us to get away or if it's relatively easy to draw because of access.

I am looking for a unit not so easy to access (good for backpacking), offering archery only type 9 tags, with decent odds of 10% or better. I have one point. Thanks for any suggestions.

Double check your wilderness boundry in any of the units you may be looking into for Type 9 specific tag Ken.

Ya know the Wilderness Law pertaining to non-res. hunters

There are always Leftover tags in the Cody area units that are Type 9 but they have alot of wilderness with in them.

Zim, I'm guessing you are looking for some Elk-hunting solitude while avoiding the non-res. wilderness restriction.
38, being non-wild., has got its limitations in that respect, you probably are aware.
There are some nice pockets of get-aways in there, but one is never more than 2-3 miles from an ORV-permissable road. Could include a canyon, though, or the hunt area border. The Bull Elk Park Research Area above the Kerns Winter Range might be worth checking into. It's not that great-big, but no motor vehicles allowed in it, I'm thinkin' (last time I checked, anyway--2 years ago).
Type 9's in the Bighorns are pretty desirable tags for res. archers, too.
That's the best I've got for you--I don't go there much anymore unless it's mushroom-picking or Scouts. Sure is beautiful country up there, got to give it that.
