2007 Colorado Elk Hunt Advice Craig/Meeker area

Looking at doing a 2007 Drop camp Elk Hunt around the Craig/Meeker area, units 23 and 24. Wondering if you all had any advice on outfitters? Words of advice for 1st timers? There will be 4-6 guys. What season would be best? Looking at 1st or 2nd. Thanks in advance.

you can do it yourself if you have the equipment. its a good area. have gottengood bulls in past. have saw some who walk a ways off road an sit an have luck. we go in on horses an have a great time. have had luck 2nd an 1st season. not many big bucks but there are some around. have saw as many as 400 head in a bunch{elk} it was awesome. didnt go last year 2006 but hope to go 2007. good luck.

I would look into Lost Solar Outfitters. The Lost Solar basin is very remote and hard to acess which means good hunting in that country because that area is packed archery thru 2nd season. Also, there is a man that lives up that way by the name of Paul Jenky who runs wilderness hunts in that area.
