Need help with a question

Has anybody ever mounted a pair of shed anters from a mule deer or seen a pair mounted? I have a couple sets of 170 sheds that I thought I would put on a shoulder mount to display them better. I was not sure how good shed antlers will look on the finished product or if you can even tell the diffence compared to horns with a skull plate attached. Please help.

Hey Dan!

I've mounted quite a few sets of sheds, and you really can't tell the difference if they're done properly. I like to pick up skulls from bucks that have died after shedding their antlers while I'm out shed hunting. You can then use lag screws to attach the sheds to the pedestals on the skull. Then the mount is done as it would be with a normal skull plate. Just avoid laying the antlers out giving too much of a spread and the mount will look great! I think Cabela's also sells a kit that you can use to mount sheds, it's just a cast of the skull plate with the pedestals and a couple of lag screws...Hope this helps!
