First Bull

Happy New Year everyone. As the new year is upon us, many of us will begin soon looking at what units to put in for for next falls hunts. As I think about the possibility of of a trophy bull in my sights, whether it be bow or rifle sights, I can't help but think of bulls of the past. 10 years ago, I killed my first bull. I was 18, and still remember the events of that day vividly. The bull was just a raghorn 4 point with a broken tine, but he couldn't have been any bigger to me at the time. I never did anything with that rack. It was screwed to a post on my father's covered porch for a long time. But I decided as I was down visiting for christmas to bring it home and put it on a plaque to put on my wall. Sort of a 10th anniversary present to myself. I recolored the horns, and, to be honest, they are a bit more red in color than I would have liked, but I think they look okay. The plaque is a piece of maple. I think that the end product turned out pretty well for never having done it before. Let me know what you all think and show off some of your first bulls. Also, I have attached a pic of my dad's frst bull killed this year. It took him thirty years to do it, but he couldn't have been more happy. The bull is a nice six point coming out of the Lookout Mountain unit of Oregon. The picture actually doesn't do the bull justice. His tines are actually much longer than it seems in the pick. I am going to do a sort of Euro Mount of it for him. When I am done, I will post some better pics of it. I wish each of you the best of health, and the best of luck in 2007.

Your father just made a huge mistake. He's now infected with successful elk hunter's disease. It will cause him much agony in the future...but congrats none the less.
